The Ice House

Average Rating:    (4 of 5)

has a long hikabike section that can be ridden up short sections at a time in some places. It goes straight up to the top of a hill. You have by now climbed maybe 700 feet and its a good view from here. Go down the other side and turn right for the longest downhill ever. Go left for the steepest downhill ever. Anyway, if you go right you get onto the Ice House run which eventually takes you out onto another road 8 miles later. Its very windy and the singletrack is excellent after the long downhill which is at least 2.5 miles long.

Summary:
Sand pit riding, some good climbind, rock strewn quad trais and some nice vistas. A pleaseurable ride through some of Western Mass's finest Mt. bike trails.

Recommended Route:
Start at the "new" PRO Brush building. Ride through the sand pits on the west side of the Ice House pond, where by the way many summer parties have taken place. The pond has also hosted many ice races (mostly motorcycle & car. Continue up the quad trail heading west tword Turkey Hill. Most of the riding is well worn quad trails with moderate climbing, until you hit Turkey Hill. Climb Turkey Hill aprox 1.5 mi and continue west to Westhampton. Here you will find links to Williamsburg, Hunting State Forest and beyond.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Armory trail through Leeds to Williamsburg. Westhampton loop to White's resevoir. Huntington State Forest.

Summary:
Its pretty good, nice long DH run. The uphill is really tough and steep but if you're skilled you might make it halfway up without a walk. If you're skilled and have lungs of steel you can make it all the way up. Nice view at the top. Then ride down for miles and miles!

Recommended Route:
You gotta start at the shop there in Leeds and head up. Or you can start on Audubon road and head up the steep way for a long downhill. Just ask someone at an LBS in Northampton they'll tell you how to get there.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Other trials, eh? Well there's a couple nice ones in Amherst, and some in Burgy... and then there's the network in Whately...
