Summary:
The mountain bike loop is the most fun where it shares path with the orange trail (windy singletrack!), plus a short section where NEMBA built a raised platform. Otherwise it's mostly flat, bumpy fire roads or steep hills covered in loose gravel, neither of which is much fun. It's a decent after-work ride if you live nearby.

Great trails that can get much better with your help. We're working to get more singletrack open and get the rules to be more equitable:

Summary:
very convenient from the city- right off I-93. a good place to get a quick riding fix and collect a couple of bruises- although its not enough to make you wet yourself. the mountain bike loop is clearly marked with red signs and winds throughout the Fells- and connects up with the *old* nemba course. some low to moderate climbs and some moderate rocky descents and techy sections scattered about. unfortunately the best parts of trails here to ride are on 'skyline' and 'resevoir' and are 'off limits' to riders, and clearly marked with 'no bike' signs- so watch out. and if you come up on a hiker/folks with dogs, be sure to slow down and say 'hi' cause a little frienliness goes a long way+ it's not necessary to scare the folks who just want to hike the trails and clear their minds. but when you get in the clear, let it rip and enjoy- if you get creative and get to know the trails you can find the log ramps and some rocks to jump off to get some giggles- but don't expect to blow your mind out. after talking to a ranger, found out that they are constantly, constantly working on these trails- so i imagine that most, if not all of the Fells will soon be off limits to riders- so BE NICE to folks and get evil when no one else is around....
the view from the tower is pretty cool- nice views of the city.

Recommended Route:
??? -trails are fairly well marked with some small, unmarked ones branching out. the main mountain bike loop is easy and nothing exciting- but the in-between-trails are better. take a chance

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Lynn Woods, HP State Forest

Mtb loop is a good XC trail w/ a lot of variation from technical to smooth and fast runs. Some of the ups are hard as hell but there's looooots of trail to ride & even more rock to mess with you on those trails..

Recommended Route:

Summary:
Very fun trail. Nothing too extreme, mostly slight rolling hills with some singletrack (on the main Mountain Bike Loop). You can get some speed on a few sections and have fun hopping over rocks along the way. Some places to test your technical skills with rocky climbs and smaller drop-offs.

Its a fun trail, nice ride at 6+ miles for the main loops. It's nothing super extreme or too challenging, but not boring either.

NEMBA has provided nice bridges and other general maintenance to further the biking experience.

Recommended Route:
The Mountain Bike Loop is a good ride, but there are lots of side trails and alternate paths to take. Just make sure to stay off the hiking trails! Lots of political garbage about bikes in the Fells flying around, so help our case and stay on the MTB trails. Not all the hikers are cool about bikes there.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
I hear Lynn Woods is good, and some other areas up near Gloucester.
