Greenbriar Hodges Dam

Average Rating:    (4.18 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 11

From Cumberland farms a 1 mile rail trail leads to the French's River. Ride on great soil along the riverbed into the Hodges Dam Area and take a winding single track loop. Lots of options. Ride all day or take a 6-10 mile loop

Summary:
This place is where I learned to ride. I love it for its variety and closeness to my house. I recently relearned to ride doing night rides with my race team. Riding at night with faster, better riders is a fast way to become beter yourself. I like to ride it at night because I know it so well, and probably won't get lost. I have been trashed on this trail, especially at night. trail maps are available at the corp headquarters.

Recommended Route:
Start at the army corp of engineering headquarters. Ride down the road beside the dam, head over the bridge, turn left after bridge. The fire road takes a small grassy uphill that leads to some decent double track. From there on in its your choice. Almost all trails eventually dump back into the main fire road system. Many miles of trails. As an alternative, park at greenbriar park and head in from the area near the parking area near the tennis courts.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
a secret time trail trail I have been doing for years in auburn.

Summary:
The singletrack (blue trails) at Hodges are good riding with plenty of twists and turns. Some of the multi-use trails are equally impressive but not particularly challenging. For an exciting ride, sneak onto power lines and look for more singletrack and long descents. There also seems to be a lot of ORV usage of the trails and a lot of equestrian traffic (READ: a lot of horse shit). Why is it that dog owner have to poop-scoop but horse owners don't? Overall I give Hodges' 4 tires, it has a little of everything including some challenge.

Recommended Route:
Start at any entrance:Rocky Hill Rd., Dam, Green Briar

Other recommended trails in the same area:
skip Buffumville, it's flat and ribbed with roots. Good spot to swim though.
