Millers River Trail
1 reviews
 5 of 5

There is room to park at the end of Blossom St at the trail head.
The trail head is not well marked, it just begins where Blossom St. ends. It is marked with Pink paint spots on trees and some orange marking tape. There are also a few bike trail markers. The trail follows the River down stream. You will soon come to a RR trestle. Go under the trestle, there is a ledge to cross on (walk the bike in front of you standing up) This is where the trail really begins. All single track and lots of nice scenery. The next time the trail crosses the tracks it's through a tunnel. The going gets a little tricky as you approach the tunnel but not to bad. Coming out of the tunnel bear left up the steep hill, the trail quickly improves. When you come back down close to the tracks cross them diagonally. The trail comes back down to the river. The river gets quiet for a while, enjoy it because it's all rapids after the next trestle witch you go under. After the trestle the trail stays close to the river so don't take the cart road that leads away from it. Across the river is the Bears Den conservation area with some more good biking (The trail over round top is fun). The trail continues down stream past the red camp. The red camp is almost half way and the single track continues! On the second half the knarle is a blast for experienced riders. Turn back when you have had enough. The trail goes all the way to Crescent St. in Athol but it is not as well marked at this end.
It is not unusual to ride the whole trail and not see another person the whole time. This is a fairly remote area.
There are other access points to the trail, two on the Gulf Rd. and one off Chestnut Hill ave. in Athol.
This trail gets high marks for it's great scenery and it's unusualness.

Summary:
This trail isn't used much but it is well maintained. Grate single track, very remote,a real sence of wilderness. It's you the railroad tracks and the river. The river is real nice, The beaver are friendly.
It's all single track and some very unusual single track to.
The next time you want to ride some very single track and want some peace and tranquility to go with it try this trail. You will like it.

Recommended Route:
Two places are good to start South Royalston behind Pete & Henrys Restraint and Chestnut Hill Ave. in Athol at Merrifelds corner.
It follows thw river.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
The Long Pond Trail in Royalston is good to.
So is Bears Den at the end of Bears Den Rd. across From the hospital in Athol.
