Massasoit State Park

Trail(s) are many and all connect in one way or another. The single track is fast (parts) and filled with roots. Some good hard climbs to burn up the quads! Explore and tackle the K12, unbelievable drop off. It conquered me several times with the old "face plant", lean way back and hold on; follow the fire roads past pond and up hill. Take the road to the right past the beach sand and the k12 is on the right, look for it. The fire trails are good, some soft parts to throw you over the bars, but a good rid if that is your style. This trail/park is fun and interesting for a few months of riding but gets boring. Very difficult to get lost but worth the experience. Thier is something for everyone and all levels if you push yourself.

Summary:
Massasoit is a fairly small state park bisected by a paved road and surrounded by residential neighborhoods. It's a state park/campground so it's closed to dirtbikes and ATV's, although the trails get a good amount of use by walkers and cyclists. The trails are mostly non-technical and windy, sandy/loamy hardpack singletrack with occasional rooty sections and about a half-dozen short steep climbs. It's like a flatter, less windy Otis. It drains really well so you can ride there after a good rain and not get all mucky. It won't challenge you technically (it's a great place to ride a cyclocross bike) but if your looking for a good cardio workout and you can keep your speed up the windy sections can be difficult to negotiate. If you can rock your big ring on the flats you'll definitely have some fun here.

Recommended Route:
Eight mile "three leaf clover" shaped clockwise loop. From the main parking lot take the left over the small wooden bridge and explore the trails along the left side of the paved road. After about three miles you wind up at the back of the park where the paved road ends and the gate is closed. That was the first leaf of the clover. Go around the gate, take a left and continue a clockwise loop for about 2 miles to ultimately wind up almost back at the closed gate. That was the second leaf. Continue clockwise around the pond and back toward the parking lot on the opposite side of the road. That's the third leaf. Sorry I can't give you turn-by-turn. The place is small so you can figure it out in a few rides.

Summary:
This is a great place to take someone who is just starting out. I t has just enough to not scare them off but keep you satisfied as well. There are some really good, fast parts and some really decent climbs and one killer downhill.

Recommended Route:
Upon entering take quick left over wooded brige. This set of trails weave off and then briefly back on the pavement. Its fast and has a couple of good climbs. Continue to follow and you'll reach a great hill near the golf course.
