Gilbertville State Forest

Good mix of fire roads and single track. Lot's and lots of room to explore in here. You can very easily spend a couple hours and not go on the same trail twice. Some trails are easy fire roads will gravel, some trails are "rock gardens" and only the experienced technical rider should tackle them. Overall, there's something for everyone.
Take Rt. 495 to Rt. 1 North, take a right at the first set of lights (there's a sign for Gilbertville) travel about 2-3 miles, and take a left at the next sign for Gilbertville, travel about 1 mile and park on the right.
Summary: Foxboro is an excellent place to ride. It makes you feel like you have ridden longer than you actually have. Experienced riders will be able to clean the "C" loop in an hour or so if they go non-stop, so it is definitely a possibility for after-work rides, if you are close enough. There are some challenging technical sections, more of them at the end of the trail than the beginning. It's definitely a good place to have suspension if you have a creaky body like mine. The terrain is varied, which is also nice. There is some climbing, but nothing extended, mostly technical stuff and short steep sections with lots of rocks to negotiate. The Mt. Bike routes are supposed to be one way, and for good reason with some of the real steep stuff. It's best to follow the designated loop direction to avoid problems. I haven't strayed off the marked trail, because I'm that way. Not sure what the other trails are like.
Recommended Route: There are three Mt Bike routes, A, B, and C. I believe C is the "expert" loop, and is also the longest at about 10 miles, give or take.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Vietnam (while its there), Franklin, Groton, Lynn

Ridden Trail: Once a year

Summary: Some roads like the fire road to around the woods are deceiving. You get going very fast and then realize your on very loose gravel, so watch out. The other trails have clearly been affected by the motorbikes that use to be here. There are 3 foot ruts in some of the trails. Isnt all that bad, just a different challenge. Overall these trails are very good.
Recommended Route: Every trail

Summary: A great place to ride and hve fun. Intermediate or better will really enjoy this place. Rocks, roots, singletrack, fire roads, this place has some of everything. Check the map at the South enterance, but this place is pretty clearly marked. Enjoy.
Recommended Route: All routes are good. Try the Megley Trail, down and back, to add to the bike loops.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Wrenthem, Milford, Franklin

Ridden Trail: Every few months

Summary: Probably the best riding in the Boston area-- pure New England riding with babyhead rocks and roots splattered all over the trails. However, nice variety with some singletrack, fireroads, tree surfing, and some moderately technical scary stuff. Lots of places to explore. Can get busy on the weekends, and be nice to the hikers, cuz if they complain alot we lose yet another place to ride.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Dogtown (not real close) but you really need ride it once to get "spiritual" and "inspired".
