Most trails are ATV trails so it's not true singletrack, but close to it. Lots of tight twists & turns, short steep up and downs, plenty of rocks and roots to keep it interesting technically, some fun downhill sections. In addition to the ATV trails, the singletrack Bridle Trail is open to mountain bikes. Looks like it could be pretty muddy in early season.
Approaching from Monterey (rt 23), take Blue Hill Rd into Beartown State Forest. You can also approach from the other side, near Lee, off rt 102. You can get a map at the campground on Benedict Pond Road or at Forest Headquarters on Blue Hill Road. There are several parking options depending on what trails you want to ride.
Summary: The above route will give you about 2 1/2 to 3 hrs of riding time. The terrain here doesn't allow extended hammering. Even though this route is not singletrack (all atv trails) it's plenty challenging. Very hard to get lost here. There's signs at all trail heads. Some sections stay wet most of the year, but is 100% rideable. There are a lot of waterbars. This is defintetly not a place for begining riders. (Unless you stay on the many miles of gravel roads) Lots of rocks. This is a good place for an xc training run. There's a good mix of climbing and descending. Bring lots of supplies as you will not see anyone unless you are by Benedict pond.
Recommended Route: Start at the pull-off where the Wildcat trail ends. (It's shortly after the sign welcoming you to the park when coming from rte 102, maps avail. at sign). Start on Beebe, take a left onto Sky Peak, Turn left at next junction and stay on Sky Peak. When it turns into a dirt road, go straight at the 4-way intersection up a small hill. Turn right at the first trail you see. This is the Airplane trail. Follow this downhill to the junction with the Turkey trail. Turn left and go uphill. Go straight across the dirt road and stay on the Turkey trail. Go straight across another dirt road. Turn right and follow the Bridle trail for a very short distance. Cross the paved (Benedict Pond) road and follow the Wildcat trail. Stay on this at any junctions. Shortly after you cross the Bridle trail there's a nice loose downhill. At pavement, turn left and you will see your car. If this route didn't tire you, pedal back up the hill and do a easier (not easy) loop on the Ski / Bridle trail. It's the closet thing Beartown has for singletrack.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Yukon Ridge (if you like to climb), Pittstown forest, October mountain, Kennedy park.

Summary: I rode the Airplane Trail, Turkey Trail, Sky Peak Trail and Beebe Trails (ATV trails), as well as a short section of the Bridle Trail (singletrack). These are good trails for intermediate and above riders. These are roller-coaster type trails with frequent short steep climbs so the riding is somewhat strenuous, especially if you try to keep a good pace going. The best bike in my opinion would be an XC full suspension, although I rode it on a hardtail with no problems. There are no big ledges or drops, just small to medium rocks and roots. Downhill sections are very fun with lots of tight bermed turns. All trails were in good condition with minimal mud, but when I rode there last year there were a number of deep mud sections. In 2 days of riding there I only ran into 3 other trail users -- 1 motorcycle and 2 ATVs -- no other mountain bikers.
Recommended Route: There are lots of options for different loops depending on how much time & energy you have. My favorite loop was: park at the intersection of Sky Peak Rd and Beartown Mtn Rd, ride Sky Peak Trail to Beebe trail, right on Beebe trail, left on Benedict Pond Rd (pavement), left on Sky Peak Rd (dirt road), left onto the Turkey Trail, then right onto the Airplane Trail, then left on Sky Peak Rd again to complete the loop. You could avoid the pavement and dirt roads by taking Wildcat Trail to make a much longer loop with some serious climbing.
