Susquehanna State Park

Average Rating:    (3.5 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 2

Single track trails and loops ranging from 2-10 miles long. Difficulty level moderate to hard. Steep climbs and descents, terrain is covered with roots, logs, and rocks... great views of the Susquehanna.

Worthwhile for a day trip if your bored of flat, smooth, wide forest trails.

Red marker on map marks location of ranger station where a trail map can be found.

Summary:
Very hilly. Elevation goes from sea level to +300ft and back down again quite often. Most of the hills will have water bars to prevent erosion, which makes for difficult climbs and bumpy descents.

Trails are also used by horses, so beware. It's still a very fun park, with several trails of varying difficulty.

Recommended Route:
If you aren't into climbing or prefer fast twisty single track, there is one trail you must check out. About half a mile north of the mill, there is a foot bridge (formerly railroad bridge) across a stream inlet to the river. Cross this, then take a right onto a trail. This trail will lead up to the gravel fireroad to the Conowingo Dam. Definitely my favorite trail in the area, and good for all levels of bikers.

Summary:
Mtb friendly, two new trails being built as of August 2009, still rocky, rooty, steep, fun as ever.
