Henson Creek Trail

Average Rating:    (2.67 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 3

12 foot wide paved trail Temple to Brinkley is good for beginners, 1 mile if that. Brinkley to Bock is a bit long 3.5 miles and turn a beginner aganinst riding. Bock to Tucker is nothing just a connector. Tucker to Fort Foote Road is long and excellent for racing and testing your short, intense endurance with a steep hill at the end. Intermediate riding time is bout an hour beginning to end and back. All trails are basically flat with slight up and downs, widing paths. (not visually intimidating)

Trail Directions
From St Barnabas Road turn onto Temple Hill Road the road will split, follow to the left on Temple Hill Road for approximately a mile you will see the Temple Hill park on the right. there are four parts to Henson Creek trail. Starting at Temple follow to Brinkley Road (tricky here). Once you exit the trail here turn right and stay on the right hand side of the road for a qtr. mile. The opening will be on the opposite side just past the driving range but before the church. Bock road will be the next exit, just cross the street and you will see the trail pick-up off to your left near the truck depot. Two minutes in this path and you will hit Tucker Road fitness center and ice rink. Ride to the entrance on the other side go out to the left. Up on the right you will see Tucker Road gym, go into the parking lot around the circle and you will see the trail path leading off into the woods. this is the last part to the trail but the longest to Fort Foote road in Fort Washington. pay attention!!! up on the right a 100 yards or so you will see the path split to the right, keep straight. the other way lead to a resident community....ENJOY.

Summary:
I live by it, its not a mtb trail but its still a good stretch to get your stamina up if your just starting out or working on your all out speed on flat surface, from Brinkley to Bock/Tucker rd.park then Tucker to Oxon Hill Rd. are the two stretches that matters most... Be careful crossing these roads because there dangerous and biking isn't the most popular thing in thi area yet

Recommended Route:
If you got it in you map a route from Temple Hills Rd. to National Harbor and cross the Woodrow Wilson Bridge then come back

Summary:
Since this is MTBreview I need to tell you that this is NOT a mountain bike trail. It is however a really pleasant place to ride for anyone in the Ft. Washington, Oxon Hill, Temple Hills area. Virtually flat, all paved and very fast. Everyone on the trail is very pleasant and courteous. I use only slicks here to enjoy the speed of this flat simple trail. Very cool wildlife too. Deer, fox, beaver and even an albino squirrel in the stretch between Indianhead Highway and Tucker road community center. Much nicer than you would expect for this area.
Giving it a low rating only because it isn't a good Mt. Bike trail.

Recommended Route:
The whole thing.

Summary:
Very, nice scenic trail for kids or advanced rider and is totally paved and wide. As an advanced rider I love this trail in its' entirety because it has flat twisting up down widing paths and can be very fast depending on the rider. My total ride time is 50 mins.

Recommended Route:
since it's is several parts, beginners should ride Temple to Brinkley. Brinkley to Bock is for intermediates. Only advanced riders should attempt that entire trail.
