Depending on direction, you want to keep close to the resevior's bank while riding. At points you may have to get on a road, just keep the resevoir to your inside. At the halfway point, you will come to a road with a steel bridge crossing. The trail head entrances are at the parking lot's left hand side or where the road below the bridge bottoms out. The trail head back to Dulaney Valley Rd is on the left. It's easy to get lost, but the effort is worth it. This trail can be tough.
Take Baltimore beltway I695 to Dulaney Valley Rd north exit. Take Dulaney Valley north appox. 5.5 mile past Old Bosley Rd. Just after Old Bosley Rd park on left before bridge or on right after bridge.
Counter Clockwise: If you park on left before bridge enter trail head in middle of field.
Clockwise: After going over bridge look left after guard rail ends.
Summary: Who ever wrote the previous review has no idea what they're talking about. The trail is hilly and technical, if you get on at the delaney valley road trail head. It's MOSTLY technical singletrack, if you know where you're going.
Recommended Route: Get on at delaney valley road (before the bridge heading away from Towson. Go to the right hand trail and start climbing.

Summary: I rode the West side of the reservoir. It was fireroad but I found some of the singletrack. There are some tough hills, but technically it was not much. The trail was boring - no twists or turns, just some climbing. I think the other side is supposed to be more challenging and maybe the seminary loop is better, but this provided me no incentive to return.
Recommended Route: Not Merriman's loop

Summary: This trail system rocks, just like all Baltimore area trails. You don't have to go to PA to get a great work-out close to home. This loop has hills, roots, log piles, rocky fire roads, and bald eagles.
Recommended Route: I like to do this route counter clock-wise. It is more ridable in this direction for x-country riders. As at most places it's hard to describe a route. Check this place out, you may get lost but you won't be disappointed with it's challenges.
