Cross Country Rider Summary: I started riding last year and have found that the Shed is the most fun place to ride in the Frederick area. More recently I have been riding this loop that starts at the Hamburg Rd Parking Lot. You take the Blue trail to Lawnmower to Volkswagen to the newly created twisty windy single track awesomeness called Knucklebuster so fun. It's a good mix of ups and downs some fun features like big rocks to clear in Knuncklebuster and some badass log piles on VW. Over all super fun little loop. Recommended Route: Blue trail to Lawnmower to VW to Knucklebuster. But that is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the Watershed. Other recommended trails in the same area: Anything in the shed is a good time. The other side of the road has a whole other set of possibilities. Also Greenbriar a little further up 40 is also a good time.

Cross Country Rider Summary: I live here in one of the cabins so I actually ride in this area 5 or 6 times a week. This is where I learned to Mountainbike. It is very tech. and rocky every climb is reawarded with a nice DH ride eventually. There are many trails to explore and you can connect with Gambril and catoction if you wan t a long ride.
I LOVE IT HERE IT ROCKS (literlly)
If you come by my cabin BRING BEER.
If you dont like it here dont come back LOL Recommended Route: The blue trail is best marked but there are many others just explore. Other recommended trails in the same area: ummm Gambrill, Greenbrier.

Downhiller Summary: The shed is probably the only place near DC to get a DH fix, but it has no advanced trails, and the mtn isn't very high. Looks good for semi-technical XC, though. I haven't been to any other MD destinations to compare. Recommended Route: drop trailz (FR/DH), blue trail descent and options (FR/DH/XC), pink trail (XC) Other recommended trails in the same area: none (new to area)

, from Frederick Summary: This is a combination of trails. Park at yellow gate on Gambrill Road just before Hamburg Road. Take Stoner Road (the fire pond trail) to the half pipe just past the ponds. Work it. Continue uphill bearing to the right at a Y and again at a blue gate. Ride downhill to the field (Stoner's farm) and intersect the blue trail just past it. Turn left on blue and about 100 yards look to your right into a grove of laurels. This has remained hidden for a long time. What looks like a ditch is an old wagon trail. Follow to the springs - year round cold water. Cross above the spring and bear right on the almond marked track following the ravine. It gets narrow but then reappears as a wagon trail. Follow it downhill to the cave, pools, and log bridges - challenge yourself with an eco-challenge across one of the tree bridges. Great place for a snack break. Cool off in a pool then head uphill along a double marked blue path, quite virgin, to Maples Crossing (another old wagon trail). Continue uphill to intersect the blue trail and make a choice of continuing straight to return to the carpark or turning left across the rock garden, returning to the field/blue trail intersection. Strap on the body armor and go left, downhill on Stoner Road to the bottom of Hamburg. The sections with the springs, caves, and pools are very hidden. Ask the guy who owns the land by the blue gate if you get confused. He's usually up there on weekends digging up something. Recommended Route: The Full Monte

, from Alexandria, VA Summary: I've been riding in the DC metro area for almost 7 years now and just checked out this place a month ago, and it rocks. I'd always heard that it was just a bunch of fire roads and this kinda turned me off. This place is full of sweet rocky singletrack with nice downhills and big rocks to play on, or off for that matter. Its a lot like Gambrill, but just not as up and down. I've ridden there every weekend for the last month and each time I've found new trails. I might even call it a "mecca" for all MTbikers. Whatever you're into, freeriding, xc, DH, its all here. Take care of this place and enjoy. What a gem! Recommended Route: Anything to the left of the parking area on Hamburg road is DH with a nice climb back up. The stuff to the right is rocky singeltrack with a few ups and downs. It's a bit easier on this side. Other recommended trails in the same area: Gambrill has lots of fun rocky stuff, but its easy to get lost here. Sheaffer Farms, in Germantown, despite what everyone is complaining about (with reason in my opinion) is still a classic ride, just not as technical. Patapsco is a great place for everyone, just kinda far.
