Summary:
For rider used to Eastern PA rock gardens and super technical tight trails, this is a gem! Loved the flow, roots are fun for a change and a good hour and fifteen minute pace around the entire loop. Rode it counter clockwise but think it would be just as good the other way. Very well maintained trail and very well planned and built. Great little spot to ride. There is a $3 donation but well worth it.

Recommended Route:
Either way, clock or counter clock.

Don't know of any yet, but looking forward to finding them!

Summary:
Trail is great any time; after long dry periods during the summer and fall you can go clock/counter cloak wise in a total of about 2 hours. Creeks are mostly dry with minimal water. I take my kids (11 and 7) on the trail clock-wise for the first mile out and back, semi-technical but at slow speeds it's great for them, or you can continue on the rock/gravel road another 1/2 mile.
For those of you who love to get muddy, go after or join me DURING a heavy rain. Some creek beds will get 2 - 3 feet deep, plenty of mud, plan to carry your bike through creeks, up a few hills and expect to crash. During rainy weather trail takes about 2 1/2 hours total.

Recommended Route:
doesn't matter...

Ridden Once

Summary:
I made the decision to drive an hour to ride this trail. It was a great decision to do so. This trail is severly underated. I rode it both clockwise and counter clockwise, 8 miles each way, at right about 2 hours. Of course it isn't perfect and could use some work, but it does have a thrill of its own. Portions of the trail were slighty sloppy, almost swampy, and were really tough to ride. Several creek crossings with somewhat negotiable ways to cross. Some have bridges, bridges under construction, or single boards to cross on. At two portions you really need to pay attention to the trail as it isn't marked well. Other than those two spots, the trail is easy to follow. Lots of roots, rocks, log rolls, jumps, and other fun obstacles. For all of ou who want to take the time to ride here, come on down. You'll not be disappointed.

Recommended Route:
clockwise or counter clockwise, they are both equally fun.

Summary:
There is a $3 fee... excerpt from www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/southern/stmarysriver.html "For 2004, the day use service charge is $3/vehicle year-round. Out-of-state residents add $1." I would assume this would be true for 2005 too. As I recall, near the restroom is a box with daily permits, payment envelopes, and a collection "bin".

Recommended Route:
clockwise first, counter clockwise second. You'll get about 16 miles in if you circle the lake twice.

Summary:
I thought that this trail was pretty fun and challenging. I went after some heavy rains, there were lot's of creek crossing's, roots, and ton's of mud. A good and challenging trail for intermidiate riders. Enjoy!!
