Summary: Figured this needed updated since no one's touched it since 2003. I ride here alot. Its a fun little trail system...the park has worked in recent years to rerouted some of the heavily eroded/rooted trail for more flowy, interesting doubletrack in certain areas. Some logs, some rocks, generally a well behaved trail. Weekends aren't a good time to ride in the summer but the rest of the year you're ok. A good place for beginners with some experience to cut their teeth, and fun enough for the experienced rider looking for a fast, aerobic ride. Worth checking out, also certainly stop by Schaeffer's Farm if you've got the time, which is also a part of the Seneca Creek State Park system.
Recommended Route: The park maps you'll find aren't all encompassing. What I'd recommend doing is turning the lake loop into a longer ride.
Ride the whole lake, and then....If you're looking at the dam from the lake side, there is a trail head that starts on right side of the road on the far side of the street (the lane further from you on the road) where it makes a 'T' (you can't miss it) this goes behind the dam and down past a footbridge, under Great Seneca Hwy and out to Riffleford Road. (Caveat, about a mile down from the dam there's a trail split, go left, going right takes you to a pavilion. And when you come up on the foot bridge stay straight)
Ride the whole way down the trail, under Great Seneca and then out the fire road until you see a road gate. Just before this gate is a trail on your left that is a good bit of fun. Take this trail, it will climb up the hill, around on top, across the power line and then back down eventually to Riffleford Rd. Then ride back up the fire road, under Great Seneca, and then go right (across the footbridge you ignored before) and take that trail the whole way back to the paved road you turned off of to go behind the dam. It clocks in at about 8 miles.

Summary: I’ve ridden this trail a few times. The most technical thing about these trails is avoiding parents with little kids. If you don’t like paying the fee in the summer you can use some of the local roads to get to the trails. To avoid little kids, I recommend riding back near the shooting range or (even better) going to the Greenway Trail off of 355 – muddier rockier and much less kids.
Recommended Route: Greenway

Summary: Just got back from the lake loop, its ok, pretty good for beginners, good for a workout but nothing technical. Nice mud, good alternative to Schaffers when its closed due to rain.
Recommended Route: Have only done the big lake loop

Ridden Trail: Every few months

Summary: It's a good trail for every rider. Beginners can take it slow and easy. My dad did it on a hybrid.
Recommended Route: I've only ridden the short loop. It's really great with lots of logs and downhills.

Summary: Have ridden twice, will be going back. $2/person but worth it if staying all day. Main lake trail heavy with hikers. Park and get a map at boat dock. Find trails in back for less traffic. Some log crossings, few light technical sections, quick and fun singletrack. Good intro to trail riding.
Recommended Route: I-270 to Clopper Rd (117) West. Follow for approximately two miles to the park gates on the left.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Recent resident. Checking them 1 by 1.
