Ridden Trail: Every few months

Reviewed by: Rick Wiker
, from Sykesville, MD Summary: For first 2 miles, very tough with steep hils, hairpins, fallen trees. Then at old Gorsuch Switch Road bridge abutments, the main Patapsco State Park horse trail merges from the left and the path to River Road from then right. The trail is now wide enough for a small jeep. About a mile later, just past a small ford of a brook, a scenic side path leaves on the right, and follows the brook as it falls over shelves of rocks and eventually ends in the large L-shaped 40-acre overgrown field near the pipeline crossing on River Road. You will be a 1/2 mile from the road. But if stay on the main path, you'll get to Henryton Road in two more miles and then another mile or so to get to Marriotsville Road. To continue on, you probably have to go the park entrance 1/2 mile up the road on the north side of the river. It's a get walk. If you're biking, watch out for horses. Recommended Route: From Sykesville, cross Main St river bridge into Howard County, turn left onto River Rd. After about a mile, then turn left immediately before fencing on the left side as you leave the valley.
