Ridden Trail: Once a week

Cross Country Rider Summary: The White trail is somewhat short. A few logs. Fair amount of rocks. Ups and downs but nothing really sustained. Not a bad ride. Relatively dry, despite raining heavily a couple of nights ago.
The red/green/blue trails are (generally) wide and smooth. A few parts are rocky/steep/rooty. I'd only ride 'em for the cardio and the view.
Recommended Route: Here's how to get to the White Trail. Park at the Savage Park parking lot off Vollmerhausen Road (between Spring Water Path Rd and Savage Guilford Rd).
Ride along the path, staying to your right until you are at the river. Then head towards the highway noise towards your right and head under the I-95 Bridge. Beware the sand. The trail is well-marked.
Here are directions to the "end" of the trail. Park at the Huntington Deli and Market (7635 Murray Hill Rd, Columbia, MD). Ride south on Murray Hill Road and make a left on Vollmerhausen Road. Ride on the grass on the right side of the road and look for the trail start. It's a steep dirt single-track start. About 50 meters away from the Murray Hill/Vollmerhausen intersection.

, from Columbia, MD Summary: Short and good. Someone told me about this trail and I had no idea how large it actually was. The white trail is a nice little 30 minute romp that starts in Savage, takes you under I95 following a stream, and ends up in Columbia. I went in early spring and the mud in the low areas was the only bad part. But , there are few low areas , so it all works out. The hills on the Columbia side of the white trail will give you a good workout. This trail is good to check out if you live in the area. Not worth it if you live far away. The wild life was amazing - lots of deer back there. The trails were single track and very rocky. For anyone that lives in Columbia, park over by lake Elkhorn. Follow the paved hiking trail that goes under Broken Land. It will go about 3 miles till you hit the end - go straight on that street till you see a old railroad bridge. Colubia Association put a bike path across it. Go across and follow that trail straight ( the pavement ends and its nice single track) . You will hit Volmerhousen Rd(sp?). Go up the hill and you will see the park on the left. You can do the other trails if you like, but the White Trail is the longest. The trail ends up on the Columbia side , just take a left on Volmerhousen and you'll head back to the trail. Its a great ride.

Ridden Trail: Once a week

, from Elkridge Summary: This park offers a nice mix of easy single track and more technical rocky/downhill stuff. Watch out for broken tree limbs and wind blown debris on the trails. There seems to be a lot of downed trees this year. The best part: you can ride for an hour and not see another person. The downside: it's a pretty small park. If you're looking for a 2 or 3 hour ride, head to Patapsco. Recommended Route: I like to ride the white-blazed trail out to Murray Hill road and back first, then I hit the rest of the park. When crossing the sand bar under I-95, I've found it helps to click up a few gears so you don't overpower the rear wheel. You'll cruise right on through. The steep downhills to the river are a blast, but a little dangerous for the novice rider. Other recommended trails in the same area: Patapsco - Avalon Area. Also, if you're ever in western Maryland (Garrett county), try the 6 mile trail between Swallow Falls State Park and Herrington Manor State Park. Lots of fun, plus plan on seeing deer, wild turkeys, and the occasional hill-billy.

, from Columbia Summary: The new white trail is pretty good. My only complaint is the thick sand under 95, which you have to push your bike through.
