Rosaryville State Park

It is an 8 mile loop with several connectors. Tight, twisty singletrack mixed in with fast doubletrack and short, sometimes steep, climbs. Built and maintained by M.O.R.E. The park is the highest point in PG County, and it has very decent elevation changes.
Washington Beltway (I-95 [east] side) to Rt. 4 South (Pennsylvania Ave.) 2.9 mi. to Woodyard Rd. Exit. Immediate Left at first light at Osborne Rd. Go 2.9 miles to Right at light at Rt. 301 (by Pizza Hut). About 100 yards take a right at Park entrance. Take a Right at park map kiosk to go up hill. Kiosk trail parking lot is first on the right.
Summary: I rode this trail yesterday. It is buttery smooth. Has a great flow. I ride Patapsco on a regular basis and still had a blast on this trail. It is fast and fun. I plan to put this trail in to my riding schedule.

Summary: Fun, fast, and well-maintained! Great for getting some miles in without having to think too much. Approx 9.7 miles on the perimeter loop with optional detours available. Mostly short rolling moderately twisty hills, no long flat sections. Surface is 95% fast smooth packed dirt with the occaisonal root or spot of mud. Nothing technical (unless a 5-inch log is difficult for you). I can finish the loop in less than an hour. Some climbs might be tough for beginners, but they're all very short. This trail is what you make it. It can be relaxing or a great place to train.
The trails are used by horses and the occaisonal hiker/runner. Watch out for groups of horses in the mid-mornings (and good luck avoiding their steamy piles). There's very little traffic most afternoons as most bikers get out there in the early AM.
MORE seems to have made improvements over the last couple of years (judging from other reviews). The stream crossings have been covered with gravel and metal grating, so they're not muddy. It's also a good place to go for a run.
New TTF's have been built in Spring '07. Not sure of how to find them (and not interested). Poke around a bit. They can't be too hidden.

Recommended Route: Doesn't seem to be a preferred route, though the mile markers go clockwise. I enjoy CCW to take advantage of the downhill section near mile marker 4 (cw). The trailheads are easy to find from the first parking lot.

Summary: The review posted by JackHaas is wrong. There are exactly zero (0) granny gear climbs. Like the review before this one, it is big gear stuff (for intermediate and advanced riders). This is a great place to XC train, keep high cadence etc. Also great for newbies. This is a great locals place, there are better places to drive too if you are in the car, so save your time. Best for those who live close.
Aerobic rating, in my oppinion, is dependent on how hard you ride, if you are out for a leisurely ride, it's a 1, if you motor it's a 2. Overally rating is more like a 2 but I give it a 3 because it is close to the house and I can take my less inclined MTB friends thier and still have a good ride.

Summary: An 8 mile loop that was opened about 2 yrs ago that has now been expanded to about 9 and 1/2 miles. Nothing technical here, but is good for a nice after work ride and workout. Just a fun, fast, mostly twisty, up and down singletrack.
There is on log proped up on a tree stump by the road about half way through the ride. Makes a nice 3-4 ft drop, but not much room on the other side to land. I haven't jumped off of it yet. Judging by the marks on the ground though, it looks like there are some since crashes from attempts.
Recommended Route: You can to enter the park or start at the Safeway and ride the 1/2 mile to the trailhead. Once there, take your pick on which way to go. It's just one big loop. Stay on the beaten path and you'll be ok. once you come back to the parking lot, turn around and repeat as many times as necessary.
A great place to work out the high ring. Go fast, go slow whichever u like.

Summary: Rosaryville is the best trail in Southern Maryland. Rosaryville is better then Cedarville, but Cedarville still has its place. I am an intermediate rider and Rosaryville tests my skills. There are 3 or 4 grannygear climbs, and numerous switchbacks. The muddy stream crossings are the worst part of Rosaryville. Some of the stream crossings involve a steep decent, going through mud 1 feet deep followed by a short steep ascent. Also unlike Cederville, when a tree falls across the trail bikers build a ramp over the tree and not just cut it out. (This is a big plus in my mind).
The trail should be marked better. There are several places where it is unclear which way to go. If you do the trail “backwards” it is impossible to do the loop unless you know where you are going.
A big negative in my mind is that the trail is in PG county. There is broken car window glass in the parking lot from where thieves broke windows to steal (I assume). I have been there 6 times and once on my return trip to the parking lot there was a couple having sex and one time there was a group hanging out. None of the people were mountain bike types.
Recommended Route: Park in the first lot on the right, bike out and leave the parking lot and the start of the trail will be straight ahead of you.
