Green Ridge State Forest
12 reviews

12 miles. Signal track in some spots. Good hills, pretty challenging up hills, fast down hills. Nice state park. I've seen reviews for Greenbrier, but I don't think this is the same place. It's a mix of skills Advanced and "Extreme" riders will find it faily easy. But I think it would still a fun ride. Great camp site also.
Summary: Rode this trail for the first time today. Great fun! I'd say this a great trail for intermediate riders with decent aerobic fitness. 12 miles of dedicated mountain biking makes for a great ride. Flows very well, a lot of fast, flowy sections that are fun to rail. A couple of steep, loose, rocky downhills that may be scary for a novice, but an intermediate rider can navigate. A few really good climbs (by good, I mean tough)--but all rideable (in other words, not a mandatory hike-a-bike, but if you're not in decent shape, they may well be hike-a-bikes) Stream crossings keep it interesting. Basically, a good all-around trail ride with a little something of everything--logs, a very few small rock gardens, ups, downs, etc.
Hopefully, maintenance crews will get out soon--there were a few big trees down over the trail at spots.
Recommended Route: It's a directional trail, so follow the signs. Mile markers count downward from 12 instead of upward. I thought that was interesting.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Gambril, Greenbrier, Rocky Gap, Cacapon, Sleepy Creek.

Summary: This is a well maintained trail in a fairly isolated area. It is a combo of 30 percent fire road and 70 percent singletrack. It has white blazes and milage markers but sometimes they are a little far between. Make sure you weare bright colors because evan though I rode on a sunday and X-mas eve I still saw hunters and heard gunshots. Riding clockwise you get some steep climbs to 1600 then 1800 feet followed by a good downhill but it has some babyheads so be carefull the you do a few stream crossings followed by another 1.5 mile down hill that is a fast as you want it to be, I got up to 30+ mph! It finishes with a few small stream crossings. Not real tech but a great ride.
Recommended Route: follow the signs to the trailhead then go clockwise

Summary: After reading the reviews and state park brochure I really expected more. Maybe I am spoiled by my home town ride in the frederick water shed and Gambril state park which is much more difficult. I will say that the loop was enjoyable and is recommended for intermediate riders because it lacks technical difficulty. I did not find any of the climbs difficult as well, however their was some nice views making the ride worth while. This trail does not seem to get much traffic so if you like solitude it will be worth the drive. I did not see a sole the entire ride. Lots of creek crossing's and some nice sections. This trail is in the middle of no where so bring a friend. Hats off to the youth group designed this trail. Thanks!!! PS This would be a great ride for a group because there is a big field at the trail head that allows camping.
Recommended Route: As described above, buy the state park Bike map at the greenridge HQ which is exit 64
Other recommended trails in the same area: Frederick Water Shed, Gambril State Park

Summary: As someone else stated, here in Pennsylvania, it seems as though more and more trails are being shut off from us. This trail was very refreshing to see; pure singletrack created for US! It's just as everyone else has described: steep climbs, fast downhills, rock gardens, a couple of stream crossings, and just plain ole' beautiful and exhilarating!
Recommended Route: From Artemas PA: take Green Ridge Road across 68 and turn right on to the first road you come to after crossing over top of 68. A short distance down the road, you will see bike signs and you will make a left turn, and then just follow the signs to the trail head.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Grouseland in Purcell Pennsylvania
