The trails behind Kents Hill are used for a mountain bike race in the fall and are usually not maintained in the spring and summer (quite overgrown). They are mowed in September and are good in the fall (good foliage) for a high school race. From the northernmost athletic field at the school, follow the road on the north and east sides into the woods. Proceed on any number of singletracks ad fireroads. Keep your bearings with the sun or a compass, there are few trail markers and many loops. There is a vague map at one of the entrances of the cross country ski trails there in the winter, but it is generally unhelpful. The trails extend over about one square mile, with a pond (lovejoy Pond) to the west.
The Kents Hill trails are behind the Kents Hill school in Readfield, ME. It is about 15 miles west of Exit 30 on the Maine Turnpike on ME 17. Park in their lots, there is usually ample parking. There is an orchard across the street with great apples and pies.
Summary: This is a good trail system, but is only rideable in the fall. In the summer, the grasses are unmowed and it is hard to access (though not impossible) The woods are thick and isolated, and tehre are not many people in there. The area probably contains 15 or more miles.
Recommended Route: See the trail description...there are many routes (I don't know my way around). If you go to the race they hold or the day before or after, people might know where stuff is.
