Summary:
Great trail for 85 % of it. About 6 feeder streams have caused unrideable washouts and makes you have to hike-a-bike (not ride) them. One nasty uphill. Several places along the trail drop sharply down to river. The normal amount of rooty sections. If you do a loop using the fire road as a return, you can big-ring hammer for 5 straight miles. See how far you can climb on the Burnt Brook trail(?) off of the fire road on the way back. Btw: with the exception of the AT and designated "wilderness areas" (Pemmigasswet, etc.) all trails in the White Mtn National Forest are open to bikes. I confirmed this with the Bethel Ranger station.

Recommended Route:
Start at Hastings trailhead by rte. 2. Follow the Hastings trail south for aprox. 2 miles turn right onto Highwater trail for 5 more miles. The trail fords the river here. If early season, you will have to do an out-n-back as the river runs very fast sometimes.
