Caney Lake Trail

Average Rating:    (3.44 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 16

Single track through riparian vegetation, beautiful ride. There are three loops. The eastern most loop is very technical and for advanced to expert riders only. The middle loop is faster and more intermediate. The nature trail loop could be ridden by a person with low-intermediate skills.

Summary:
Not real impressed. Drove 13 hours to ride Ruston & was rained out. This was the only open trail we could find. The "newer" area has some good climbs and drops, but the trails are poorly marked. There was way too much junk in the trails. one of the guys with us got a stick in his spokes and thrashed his derailur. Probably a 6 out of 10 trail, but our dissappointment and the boken derailur really gave us a bad taste.

Recommended Route:
Probably better riding in the area from what I have read on MTBR.

Other recommended trails in the same area:

Summary:
Trail not maintaned at all, several large trees down in trail. ATVs have been riding the trail and have torn up the ground. The ground is so soft that just riding on level ground is miserable and climbs are nearly impossable. There are a few differant trails and they are poorly marked as to where they are and which way they go.

Recommended Route:
Sugar Cane Trail seems to be the best kept, but even that is bad.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Go to Bodcau trail instead.

Summary:
Disappointed..The part of the trail that I rode was good in terms of good climbs and downhills BUT; The trail needs to be maintained better. Brush needs to be cleared and fallen trees blocking the trail need to be moved as well. I rode the first two miles and had to dismount and walk around fallen trees 3 or 4 times. Then there was the problem of ticks. At the last fallen tree, I noticed my left leg was covered in ticks. I was told by one of the park employees to follow the white diamonds. Well, no problem finding white diamonds...they are everywhere!! Parts of the trail were a little confusing to figure out. It would be a big help to make first ride with someone familiar with the trail. Don't bring your dog and take a large can of tick repellant if there is such a thing.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Lincoln Parish Park...Awesome!! I ride this trail 5 to 7 times out of a two week period. Well taken care of. James and all the crew of the park work hard at keeping the place up. Great Ride!!

Summary:
Man nice trail! Fast to ride in most places, a few nice climbs, but it is not well marked and hard to follow. I rode at the end of sept. never got off the bike, hundreds of frikin ticks, Tiny Ticks. Everywhere ticks ticks ticks, A hatchery! What do you do. I would love to ride here again after a good freeze.
Its really a nice park. Pretty woods, nice trails. Mind the parasites

See Ya'

Summary:
TCaney Lake is an awesome trail!!! It is pretty well maintained and fun to ride. There are 4 loops, however, one of the loops is closed (ClockWork Orange). The advance rider can ride all three remaining trails for a good workout. The Sugar Cane Trail is a beginner trail... transition to the new-ishh Kona Trail for some intermediate action then on to the Lost Woman for some Advanced technical fun!
