Big Hollow Trail

Average Rating:    (5 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 1

This trail opened in Dec 2013.
It is about 8-9 miles long with a gravel connector trail of 1.2 miles from the Maple Springs Trail head.
The trail consists of a North Loop and a South Loop with a connector trail linking them. There are some technical options off the sides of the main trail for more advanced riders.

Summary:
Fast Rolling slightly wide single track. Well maintained with few roots and one small rock garden on the B-loop. Good trail for beginners or younger riders. There are more challenges and technical options on the b-loop. Both loops were rolling without any major climbs when going counter clockwise.
The trail has a 15mph speed limit and I recommend checking the trail rules at the trailhead before moving out.
If you are entering the park from the south there is a ferry crossing. I think there is a trailer restriction so if you are traveling with a trailer it would be best to confirm with the National Park Service at Mammoth Cave before arriving from that direction.

Recommended Route:
Start at the Maple Springs Trail head the connector trail is on the East side of the parking lot. If you are camping at Maple Springs Campground there is a connector directly from the campground.
We ran this trail counter clockwise on both loops. I have not tried the opposite direction.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Ben Hawes, Owensboro, KY
Grapevine Loop, Madisonville, KY
Canal Loop, Grand Rivers, KY
