This trail is 6 miles long and it runs along Cave Run Lake. It is an intermediate singletrack. It has a couple of good climbs. It is usually very muddy with 5 or 6 stream crossings.

Trail Directions
Take Exit 133 off of interstate 64 and turn south onto 801. At the 4 way stop keep going south on 801. Make a right onto ky. 826. It is possibly 3 miles after the 4 way stop. You shouldn't be able to miss it. Then you should see the Stoney Cove on the left and the trailhead.

Summary:
Went out yesterday to see if it was worth it. And the answer is no! First off, this trail was designed for horses, not bikers or even hikers. It was muddy, with extreme damage by horses. This loop is just plain boring, with hardly any elevation change. The scenery stays the same with no good views and logs and obstacles placed by horseback riders. The park should designate this trail as horse only to save a lot of trouble.

Plus the loop is 9.6 miles, NOT 6.

Recommended Route:
Left or right, but I prefer not to ride this trail at all.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Big Limestone, Lakeview Ridge, Sheltowee Trace.

They stay dry and are much more fun with no horses, plus it's true singletrack.

Once a week

Summary:
This trail is not 6 miles as indicated. The portion known as the "stoney cove" side is roughly 6 miles, however this is only a portion of the loop. The complete loop is roughly 9 miles. During the Fall it is, hands down, the most versatile and fun loop in Eastern KY. Not really true single track but there is enough obstacles (roots/rocks/etc)to keep things interesting. Plus, this is a very fast trail. During wet season, Spring into early Summer, the horseriders demolish the trails till it is virtually impassable with enough manure to fertalize every garden east of the Mississippi. When things get dry during late Summer into Fall visit this trail for some great XC.

Recommended Route:
Trailheads are right across from each other. Right or Left you can't go wrong. For those with singlespeeds, starting at the Left trailhead (Sheltowee side)seems to compliment the sinle cogs a little better.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Lakeview to limestone, then either to shallow flats or off locegee road.

Summary:
Let me start off by saying that this is an update to my last post from last year. The trail has been completely redone and you wouldn't even know it's the same trail. Horse tracks no longer exist there and it's just an amazing fun trail. There's some nice jumps and a few small stream crossings. I went after several inches of rail and the trail is in great shape. I highly recommend this trail to anyone.

Recommended Route:
Start at Stoney Cove, which is the trailhead, and ride the Caney Loop to the Sheltowee. I rode the Sheltowee back and took the fire road back out. It was 9.66 miles. I will also update this again with pictures and the distance all the way around the Sheltowee instead of taking the quick way out. I thought the quick way was necessary though since it was almost dark and I didn't have a light.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Sheltowee trace

Summary:
It's a nice trail. It's muddy, but fun. It has several stream crossings. The only problem is horses have ruined a hill and you couldn't climb it if your life depended on it. Met a few horses on the trail, but no big deal. A fun trail

Recommended Route:
I take the Caney Loop until it connects with the Sheltowee. There you make a right and it takes you back to the trailhead.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Sheltowee rules! Ride it near the lake or behind the University. You can't go wrong with this trail.
