Grapevine Lake Loop
2 reviews
 3.5 of 5

There are two basic loops in the woods with several connecting trails. "A" trail goes into the woods on the left close to the entrance to the primative park. It is mostly single track with a little bit of an old wagon road thrown in. There used to be a very old coal mine in this area so exploring different little paths may bring you a little different scenery. The trail winds around the right side of the lake and comes back to the road by the boat ramp and crosses over to the left loop. Most of this side is single track(90%) with a lot of tight twisty woods runs. It will come out close to the highway entrance, back at the beginning of "A" Trail. Elevation changes shown by topo maps is approx. 100 feet.

Trail Directions
From the Pennyrile Parkway, exit at the Earlington Exit. Highway 336 runs beside the parkway on the west side. Follow it past Groves Electrical Contractors to the four way stop(approx 1 mile). There will be a Pantry Food Mart on Corner. About 200 feet before you get to the 4-way there will be a blacktop entrance to the right. There are several trail entrances off of that road.

Summary:
Trail was in great shape with only one fallen tree over the trail about 3/4 of the way around the B trail. Some slight washout with exposed roots but the trail was extremely smooth and fast overall. Pretty non-technical in my opinion but the trail quality is great. It's also fun to ride with no real climbs to speak of. Also by reversing the direction or riding a figure eight on A&B you can vary the routes quite a bit. I plan on going out here once a week or so. Ride is pretty similar to Lock 4 in Gallatin if you're familiar but there are not as many ways to vary the route here.

Recommended Route:
A trail to B trail in a figure 8 using the main road to connect them.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Canal loop/N-S trail at LBL...Lock 4 in Gallatin TN...LBSRP loop near Cadiz

Summary:
There have been a few new short technical sections added in the back of A Loop and the back of B Loop. Watch for several flags in one area marking the sections.

Recommended Route:
The Grapevine Loop is in a primitive park owned by the city of Madisonville. It is closed off during the winter months to cars and vehicles. You can park at one of the churches close by or at the entrance to the park and ride from there. The trails are marked with orange flagging for now until a more permament marking can be put up. Bear with us because some people pull the flagging down in spots.
