Miller''s Meadow

Average Rating:    (4.29 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 7

Located within Wichita city limits near Pawnee and 143rd East. Local riders describe it as the "Crown Jewel of the Wichita Mountain Biking Scene." Approximately 4.5 miles of crazy tight wooded singletrack, open fields, multiple creek crossings, bridges, concrete slabs, roots, elevated bridge, some jumps, minimal elevation change, hedge-apples, urban artifacts, and bobcats.

Summary:
An easy, quick trail located right outside Wichita. Lots of twisty single track through trees with a few open areas. Some parts are fairly rooty, but nothing too crazy. It has a few creek crossings, bridges, and other fun features. The overall elevation change is very minimal.

This is a great trail to start out learning on. 95% of the trail is rideable by beginners. It doesn't have any huge, impossible climbs or death-defying descents. The faster you ride it, the more fun it is and doing multiple laps will give you a good work out. It's well maintained and very fun. If you're in the Wichita area, definitely check it out.

Recommended Route:
The trail runs backward a few days of the week, and there's a sign telling you which way to go on which days.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
The Manhattan River Trail in Manhattan, KS is similar. Camp Horizon in Arkansas City, KS is the next closest trail, but is much, much more challenging.

Summary:
Kansas Singletrack Society recently added 1/2 a mile of new trail. This added some more twisty, tight, singletrack instead of the open meadow section. Parking is now directly to the east in the adjacent field. The trail is run backwards on T, TH, and Sat.

Summary:
This is a good trail for the Wichita area, too bad there are not more like it. It is a fast, flat ride with a few technical spots. Anyone should be able to ride 2 laps with out a problem. This would also be a good trail to get teh kids started in to Mountain Biking.

Summary:
Lots of tight twisting turns in between the trees with a few open "Meadow" blasts. There are several creek crossing and the trail management team has created little log bridges or concrete slabs for crossing these wet areas. I have to note that it was completely dry. The trail seems to be decently maintained. The trail is on private land, and I believe some work was recently done so in one spot it took me a bit to find where the trail went. Once I found the next section of trail it was smooth sailing from there. I am a new rider, however, I have ridden dirt-bikes all my life and I think some of those skills translate to mountain biking. The trail wasn't too tricky. I think there is something like 4.9 miles or so and I finished riding the trail in about 30 minutes. (I think I was cooking...no stops or step offs.) Definitely worth the trip if you need something to ride and you are in the Wichita area. I would put the trail on my to do list if I were to do a Kansas mountain bike trip with friends.

Recommended Route:
Since I am staying downtown, I took US-54 to South 127th street. Took a right and went down South 127th to East Pawnee Street, then on to South 143rd street.
