Aproxamately 8 mile loop, with a number of cutbacks to shorten the loop if wanted. Lots of whoop di dos, lots of technical log jams, very fast trail, sandy over most of it.

Ridden Trail:
Once a month

Summary:
Even though it’s an hour drive each way for me, I still try to ride the LRT at least once a month. I first rode it in 1994 and it’s just as fun today. A one-way trail with runners going the opposing direction, this trail is just a fast, sandy roller-coaster ride. Other than a few steep up-and-downs and a couple easy rocky sections there really aren’t any technical features, and it’s ideal for giving first timers a taste of dirt. There is also a newer offshoot trail around the 5 or 6-mile marker that’s a little tighter with some deep sand that adds another 2.5 miles or so to the loop, but riding it is completely optional. Singlespeeds and CX bikes work great here. Your all-mountain rig will probably be massive overkill.

The only negative thing I can say about the LRT is that on nice weekends it can get pretty crowded, so you really have to keep an eye out for oncoming joggers and riders who stop in the middle of the trail.

Recommended Route:
From the parking lot, just enter the trails to the left, hit the loop and repeat as necessary. You can’t get lost.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
If you’re in Lawrence and want something more technical, hit up Clinton Lake for sure. In the KC area, Shawnee Mission Park, Wyandotte County Lake, Smithville Lake, Stocksdale and Landahl are all worth a spin.

Summary:
8 mile roller coaster ride. Very fast. Sand pits between mile 5 and 6 aren't too fun but I think you can bypass them. Really a blast.

Recommended Route:
Turn east just north of the river and go to 8th street and turn south.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
In Topeka: Meningers, Dornwood.

Rode this last Friday 01/18/13 with slakjak. Very fun flowing trail. Has some technical stuff you can partake in or ride around. Totally your choice! It has some really well built banked corners that a person could really partake to zoom right along when the trail is 100% dry.

If your wanting a fast, fun, enjoyable time on two wheels don't hesitate to try this one out!

Summary:
Nice well marked trail. Its just one big single loop. Very fast very little climbing or descending. Trail is silty and sandy. Had a blast! The only thing difficult about this trail is we were going so fast that we were sliding out through the turns.

Recommended Route:
the bike route starts to the left.

lake perry, dornwood, governors mansion

Summary:
If you are ever in the Lawrence area, this is a fun trail to hit up for a fun 8 mile ride. The main attraction for this trail is the roller coaster whoop-de-doos on the first 4 miles of the loop and the last 4 miles back rides along the Kansas River and for the most part, it is fast and flowy.

There are a couple of small logpiles on the trail just for some technical fun and there is a couple of places on the trail you can catch some small air...

Overall, a very fun ride!

Clinton State Park.

Summary:
Not at all technical. Lots of whoop di doos to keep it interesting. A few ramps in the beginning and a cool semi drop right after the ramps. It really gives you a good work out if you ride the loop a few times.

Recommended Route:
The Loop
