CRAP, CRAP, CRAP....I would rather spend my time peeing into the wind than return to this crap hole!!, if you can ride here you need a motor because 6 inch deep sand is UNRIDABLE, sure the sites are OK but not worth taking your bike.........KANSAS SUCKS! you will walk more than you ride, and if you say you have "rode the trail" your lying!

Summary:
Kanopolis State Park, KS: Horsethief Canyon, Rockin K, Praire , Red Rock trails
Is most mountain bikers no horses destroy mountain bike trails. These trails are probably the worst trails I have ever written. The sand is so deep and so soft they're completely unreliable. Not to brag but I have been mountain biking for 22 years from the slick rock of Moab to the snotty slippery wet forests of Northern New England to the deserts in Sedona and this is the most unreliable crap I have ever seen. The Park service should not advertise mountain biking. It's a horse riding park. When I spoke with the camp host and recommended that he not tell people there's good mountain biking his response to me was "you can't expect to find a mountain in Kansas this is the flattest state United States". Completely obtuse idiot. I went to the park office and suggested to them that they remove mountain biking from the brochures. I explained the trails were to Sandy to ride. The ranger told me "Yes we get a lot of complaints about that."

Recommended Route:
A different park!

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Absolutely none!

Summary:
The park services should do everyone a favor and post a notice stating that the trail is NOT for bikes. The sand makes it impossible to go more than five feet and if you do get on hard pack, then you have to maneuver through the two feet deep ruts all while trying to avoid the horse crap. That's right harse crap! Someone should realize that hiking, bikes and horses do not belong on the same trail. As for the stream/lake i.e. stagnant, horse crap & piss, moss covered crossings; well, just make sure your up to date on your tetanus shot and have good health care.Save your gas and head off to Colorado!

Recommended Route:
Stay home

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Maybe Wilson if you don't mind unshaded trails and camping locations.
