Barton Lake

This is a well maintained 2-3 mile loop around a dry lake. Mostly flat and very fast, there is one steep climb up the levee and a lot of twisty-turny stuff. Speed makes it harder, but I would not hesitate to bring my 8 year old out here. If you are looking for a workout add in the running cross-country course on the back side of the loop. Sprinting it offers a nice lung-busting interval.

Summary:
In Great Bend for a youth football game, this trail allowed me to be back by halftime. Find the parking lot (completely unmarked) and then ride it hard. At speed it will keep your attention. There used to be a campground, driving range a playground around this lake, so be sure to notice the piers to nowhere, the creepy Stephen King type abandoned playgrounds, and the milk jugs along the trail. Wild.

Recommended Route:
Counter-clockwise was a bit more fun and challenging for me.
