Seven Oaks Ski Area

Killer hills with tough switchbacks, great single track, an aerobic killer with sweet single track and beautiful terrain. One bomber downhill, though it's pretty short. Only 3.5 miles, but oh-so-sweet.

Summary:
Well, Just rode this trail this past weekend and all I can say is that its quite tough. If your an advanced rider, u will not be dissapointed. This trail is definitely not for beginners. U will find that most of the trail your either going uphill or downhill. Quite a few very steep uphill and downhill sections, many tough switch backs, and also some bridges nd ladders. Much of the trail is about a foot wide, nd considering that it runs on a mountain, there are large portions where the trail is off camber, nd nxt to the trail, the mountain usually descends very steeply, so there is not much room for error.

Summary:
I just finished riding this trail for the 24 Hours of Seven Oaks race. The old reviews of this trail should be deleted, because they are very misleading. Since those were written, they've built lots of single track.

The race course was 8 miles of pure single track, most of it was very difficult consisting of lots of switchbacks up and down the ski hill. The trails are covered with roots that require lots of skill to clean the turns consistently. The trail has a few little downhills that take you through the creek bottoms.

After completing each lap, I felt like I did lots of climbing and very little descending. It's a good trail when you want a very difficult ride -- you can't get an easy ride in at Seven Oaks, the trail won't allow it.

Recommended Route:
I only know the race course they provided for us.

I don't live in the area and have never ridden there before.

Summary:
This trail is one of IOWA's best. Top 3 in my opinion way better than sugarbottom. Lots of switchbacks, and hilly enough to give you a good workout. A couple of good races are held here each year, including the states finest 24hour race. Yea it costs $2 or $3 but i would pay a couple of bucks to ride somewhere descent in this state. I gave it a 4 relative to the area it is located. if it was in colorado it would be a 2.5, but for Iowa it rocks!!!!!!! any one who says differently please tell me where you ride in Iowa that is so much better, seriously where???????????

Recommended Route:
Take Highway 30 west of Boone. Til you see the sign. Pull in pay a couple of bucks then take of. the trail head starts at the bottom just past the little office.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Sugar bottom

Summary:
You are all hacks. This is a great technical mountain biking trail considering you're in central Iowa. Go ride it clean and then come back and talk, pansies. A hard pace should get you around the full loop in an hour, this is not that short of a trail, except for wussies who can't do it. Yeah it's $2, losers. This is a very intense and challening trail if you know what the He!! you're doing, and worth the drive in central Iowa. If you know how to bike, rather than whine. I rate it a 4, but should be a 5 relative to what is available in Iowa.

Recommended Route:
clockwise. The do the back loop counter clockwise, it's an adrenaline rush at speed.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Skunk river greenbelt north of ames.
