Cross Country Rider Summary: Pretty good riding for the area. Some good climbs/descents and some technical sections as well. Many of the trails are open to horses, so they can get pretty chewed up sometimes, but for the most parts it's pretty good (watch out for big piles of horse crap!!). I'm not sure on the exact mileage of trail out there, but you're definitely tired by the time you've ridden most of it.
Recommended Route: Ride from the parking lot up to the observation tower and then take the trail in the clearing to the right. It's hard to see in the summer when it's more overgrown, but it's some pretty challenging riding (esp. when the trails are even slightly wet!). Other recommended trails in the same area: Lime Creek Nature Center (not as challenging, but I like it), Farmers Beach in Clear Lake (short and sweet). That's about all I know of!

Cross Country Rider Summary: The Knob is a good time for Iowa. It can be scary during the winter (when there is not very much snow or none) due to the leaves that fall on the trail which seem to hold ice. The trail consists of many steep climbs and decents, so it can be a good workout with some good rushes in between to make you forget about being tired for a few seconds.
The trails are made of good ol' Iowa dirt. Recommended Route: all over, coming down the tower trail is a fast non-technical section. (although illegal; not that I've ever done it)

Weekend Warrior Summary: All the decent trials are no bikes,(hiking only) the bike trails are complete crap, the management seems to hate bikers, ridicules 75 dollar fines for being on hiking trail, and the one or two hikers are quik to rat you out. huge area could be awsome!!! if they cared at all about bikers and changed there managment to bike friendly people. It would be nice if they mantained the bike/horse trails, but they don't Other recommended trails in the same area: none, north iowa mt,biking sucks

Cross Country Rider Favorite Trail: Hall Ranch, CO Summary: I have been riding the Knob since I was in Middle School, then on a trek 820, and now on a fairly nice Specialized. I love the knob, it is my Heritage. Good set of trails, lots of hard climbs, some great singletrack and plenty of fast downhills. For the intermediate rider, try all of the trails, some of the horse trails are beat up pretty good, but still fun, the non-bike trails are actually also pretty good...but beware, I have heard rumors that it is a $75 fine for getting caught on them. Have fun, happy riding. Strengths: big climbs, big drops, pretty tech. especally for northern Iowa. Weaknesses: Horse Trails beat up pretty bad... Other recommended trails in the same area: Try Lebbanon Hills and The Farm both in the Twin Cities South Metro

, from Hanlontown, IA Summary: The trails are a little boring for biking but probably the best you can find in this area. Alot of the trails are open to horses and that sorta messes them up for bikes, but it's still fun. Probably a good place for beginers and semi-advanced riders too, it's a good mix of trails, and they're great in the winter too. Other recommended trails in the same area: Decorah, IA has great trails
