Ridden Trail: Once a week

Weekend Warrior Summary: I live about 3 miles from this trail and I rode it on almost daily this past summer. I've done some work on it, but im not sure what I can do, it being a state park and all. The map above has it marked in wrong spot, its north on 218 and then a left on 130th street. I've tried to add some more trails and Im hoping the horse people will see them and help pack them down. Its a nice single track, a little sandy in spots near the river. Recommended Route: When you take the gravel road in it will turn into a fast downhill that turns to the right. Its a fun hill to bomb, but its also a little washed out so there are some ruts you need to beware of. If you dont want to do the hill bomb. You can take a left before the hill, this has a shorter more technical downhill. Either way is fun just depends on what you want to do. Other recommended trails in the same area: Seven Oaks west of Boone, Iowa. Its an 1 1/2 hours away but I really enjoy it, its probably top 3 singletracks in Iowa. There is also a little park also north of Floyd. When you are going North on 218 take a right, after the railroad tracks on 150th street. That gravel will take you about 3 miles to Quail Ave. and the park will be right infront of you. There is one decent downhill and a creek crossing. A fair amount of the trail goes outside the woods and through a praire. Its not quite as long as Idelwild but if your in the area, its worth the 6 miles out of the way.

Racer Summary: The trails were a swamp the last time I went(March 25th, 2005), but are awesome in the summer/fall. Some nice hills, creek crossings, rocky areas, etc. Mostly singletrack. You can head back to the Cedar River via this trail (~1.5 miles), so if you want a nice fishing / picnic spot when your done enjoying the trails, take a fishing rod (pickup a license first). One day when I was riding this spot in 2002, during Turkey season, I nearly rode into a camoflaged Turkey hunter... not sure if he was more scared, or if I was when he popped out! This is public land, so watchout for others. Enjoy!

, from Garner, Iowa Summary: You can't swing a dead cat on these trails without hitting some horse poop, but other than that these trails are rockin'. A couple of guys were down there with tools making a bridge over a really muddy stream crossing, probably not a bad idea. This would be a supreme riding area if it were better maintained. Maybe these bridge builders are a sign of things to come? Wouldn't it be great if the trails were constructed to be similar to that North Shore Vancouver crap? Sweet...

, from Mason City, Iowa Summary: The trails at Floyd are very nice. Most are singletrack except one gravel road. A trail near the river has great views. The trail riding is best in the spring before the area becomes overgrown. There are some very good stream crossings.

, from Osage Summary: Wow, had a great time on these trails. Lots of everything. Long, twisty single track. Drop offs and steep down hills. Logs, rocks, and roots. Stream crossings, and deer trails. Rode my single speed and had to walk some hills. We kept finding more trails to explore. Some long trails where you can pick up lots of speed.
