This trail is labeled as a beginner trail, but can be a real lung buster if you are not used to riding trails. There are a few long climbs and a few sections that flow down hill. The trail had a couple of stream crossings. I rode the trail 3 days after it had rained and the trail was still soggy, so it may have troubles drying out. Overall the trail reminded me of nebo ridge a little.
Summary: The description of this trail has been neglected. As of late an expert trail has been added and much more intermediate trail as well. Trails are expertly maintained and constantly growing in size. Fun! http://www.browncountymountainbiking.com/ for trail video and details about the area.
Recommended Route: Ride it all.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Nebo Ridge, Wapehani, Hickory Ridge.

Summary: I live in Pittsburgh, PA but rode this trail while in Indiana last week. Normally I ride tight single track, all mountain/cross county stuff back east. The trails @ Brown County are Fun and fast. Bike magazine just named it the best trail in Indiana. There are over 26 miles of fun fast single-track. If your a newbie you will love this trail. If your more experienced like myself you will still dig it but not in the same way. This trail is not technically challenging other than 3 or 4 rock structures scattered along the way. You always have the option to go around them. I give high marks to HMBA for the great work that they did on this trail. I had a wide grin on my face after riding the newest trail that they built. Absolute jumpfest! I had a great ride, bottom line!
Recommended Route: Go to SpokeJunkies.com and read the review. A guy just wrote it a few weeks ago and he nailed it, great work! Follow his route but take note, when you reach hesitation point cross the road and take what appears to be trail 8 to your left. You will see a HMBA sticker on a post at the trailhead. Ride it fast and catch air on every jump that you come to. I hit at least 15 on this trail. You will then come to a road where you can continue on this trail or jump off at the fire tower, If you need water jump off and grab fresh at the pump in the back of the picnic area. Get back on the trail and ride it to the nature preserve. Cross the parking lot and go down trail #4. Bomb this tight hiking trail to the bottom. Take trail #7 to trail #8. Ride trail #8 to the west lookout tower and then back to hesitation point. Now ride the D, C, B & A trails back to the car. Final note: This is not an Epic ride yet but if you are traveling to or near Indianapolis, take your bike. You will love this rollercoaster trail. Thank you HMBA.
Three words that describe one of the best-kept secrets of Midwestern mountain biking. However, Brown County won't be a secret for long. It's been designed from scratch by mountain bikers for mountain bikers. With miles and miles of flowing trail, scenic vistas, and amazing terrain Brown County is poised to become a world-class mountain biking destination. Who knew that mountain biking could be this fun...in Indiana no less!
The Brown County mountain bike trail system is located entirely within Brown County State Park. It is Indiana's largest state park. Since 2004, the Hoosier Mountain Bike Association (www.hmba.org) has been hard at work building some of the best singletrack trails around. With two loops and three connector trails already complete, Brown County State Park has almost 20 miles of trail with much more to come.
Brown County has already played host to several very successful mountain bike events including the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Annual Brown County Breakdown Epic Ride, multiple IMBA Trail Care Crew visits, the Midwest Women's Clinic and Expo, The Hesitation Point Challenge, and a DINO race. Next year's 2008 schedule will be very busy with a DINO race on Sunday, June 1, the return of the Midwest Women's Clinic and Expo on Saturday, June 7, and the Brown County Breakdown Epic Ride on Sunday, October 12.
The future holds a lot of promise for mountain biking in Brown County. With the award of a $150,000 Recreational Trails Program Grant additional trails are right now being professionally built by hardworking volunteers and professional trail builders. This is the largest federal grant ever received by a non-profit mountain bike club in the United States. It is an exciting time for mountain bikers in Indiana and the Midwest as Brown County is becoming a well known destination with some of the best built trails in the country.

Recommended Route: Brown County State Park is located in south-central Indiana between Bloomington and Columbus in Nashville, Indiana. To reach the main trailhead and entrance, enter the park through the North Gate Entrance, located off of State Road 46 just east of Nashville. The mountain bike parking lot is just past the gatehouse and pool on the right. Shaded parking areas with restroom facilities are also located at the Lower and Upper Shelter areas. For those accessing the park through the West entrance there is trail access (advanced skill level) at Hesitation Point. For those staying in the state park camprounds, there is trail access just off the rally campground parking lot near the Ogle Hollow Nature Preserve Trail trailhead. Park visitors that are staying at the Abe Martin Lodge or the Family Cabins can access the mountain bike trail system across the road from the North Lookout Tower. Finally, there are two small trail access points with limited parking at Walnut Shelter and at Hoosier's Nest.

Summary: Congratulations to the Park for making a great trail. I grew up here, but moved to Tucson. I just rode this trail last month, at was impressed. The full trail is a good aerobic challenge, if you push yourself, and it is well constructed. The riding gets harder the higher (and more tired) you get, with some nice rock gardens and wooden bridges. The view at Hesitation Point is great, and the bomb back down is well-earned.
Recommended Route: Start at the parking lot across from the pool. There are essentially three loops, increasingly difficult. If you always take the right turn at a "Y", you'll go all the way up. On the way down, do the same and stay to the right.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Anything you have time for, and hopefully the Park trail will lead to more access in the area. there's so much potential...

Summary: This trail rocks! In my opinion the best in Indiana and one of the best anywhere. There are easy sections for the beginers and great technical sections like the Hesitation point connector for advanced riders with great hill climbs and descents. The best views anywhere and the trails are always in excellent condition. There is a group ride every year in Octobor called the Brown County Breakdown. It is an epic ride with distances from 35 mile, 52 or 62 miles. I heard rumors of a 100 mile ride next year. Me and my cousin just finished the 35 mile epic and had a great time and met tons of great people. Please check this place out. It is getting better every day!!!!
Recommended Route: North gate to Hesitation point and back. 16.5 miles.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Vally Branch Retreat.
