Ridden Trail: Ridden Once

Weekend Warrior Summary: I was excited to check this trail out due to the proximity of my home. I knew this was a multiple-use trail going in, but after attempting to ride it, a strictly horse-use designation would be more accurate. The condition of this trail was horrible due to the amount of horse traffic. I had to bail 6 miles in. The chain was actually hanging on my front ring due to the amount of mud, which was held in the low-lying areas due to the horse prints. Less than 10% of what I rode was enjoyable. Recommended Route: Keep Driving. If you are in the area and you want an awesome trail to ride, head to the Ferdinand Forest. 10 miles of pristine trail with no horses. Less than 15 minutes from the Birdseye trail.

, from Louisville Summary: Sept. 6 Found the trail after a some searching. The DNR map has the parking lot in the wrong spot so be careful when following it. The Birdseye General Store is a good place to get your $3 pass and fuel up with the old-style deli. The trail was dry in spite of the heavy rains the week before. Good mix of single and double track. There wasn't anyone around for a nice weekend and the number of cobwebs across the trail showed there hasn't been much activity either by bike or horse. Not for beginners but not to technical to enjoy your ride and make some time. Recommended Route: Start at the parking lot and go behing the horse stands and bomb the long hill.

Ridden Trail: Once a year

, from Greenwood, IN Summary: OK for a change of scenery. South end is very fast. Horses have really torn up the trail in many places. They go around bad spots and make them even wider. At least the DNR hasn't rocked this trail yet. Once they do, it won't be worth unracking your bike.

, from Indianapolis Summary: There are plenty of stream crossings and a few technical parts, but not many. Well deserving just to do it at least doing it once to see it. Lots of different types of Forrest and scenery. By going this route, this is not for beginners who do not know how to use their gears or are not in physically good shape. Recommended Route: From the trailhead, go back up the road and enter the trail to the right, by going this way there are some excellent climbs. Other recommended trails in the same area: North at Nebo Ridge.
