Ridden Trail: Ridden Once

Weekend Warrior Summary: The trail is still being broken in, but it has potential. It offers some nice hills, bridges, and creeks. The grass paths are a nice change of pace, but could be considered boring. It's not the most challenging but is nice for a more lax ride. If lax doesn't sound fun, put it in gear and see how fast you can complete the course.

Cross Country Rider Summary: This 12+ mile loop should be fun and challenging for all levels of riders and hikers. The first 5 miles are mostly prairie-grass, and run through and around many woods and natural areas. You will sometimes feel like you are in the wilderness. At just over 5 miles you will enter the fast and rolling woods sections that often-times skirt near the 2,600+ acre Salamonie Lake. The rolling woods sections will last for around 4 miles and then you will return to the BloodRoot Trail-Head via the remaining few miles of mowed prairie grass.
The long stretches of prairie grass might challenge you mentally and physically, because a trail-bed is yet to be established. Just “hang in there” and remember that by riding the trail, you are helping to establish the trail-bed.
Please thank Dennis White (Salamonie Property Manager) and the rest of the Salamone crew for their hard work to get this trail up and running. The whole crew at Salamonie Reservoir is supporting and promoting Off-Road cycling!!!
12/10/07 NEWS Alert: A new 4-mile section of single-track has just been built. This NEW single-track connects to the 12-mile BloodRoot trail and can be ridden as an optional loop i.e. Mini-Loop. The Miami Indians have been asked to help name the trail. The grand opening will be in the Spring of 2008, but you can ride the trail at any time. This new single-track is in a very well-drained area and should stay dry most of the year.
Recommended Route: Go into the main gate to Lost Bridge West and park in the BloodRoot parking lot (across from the Interepretive Center) Follow the trail signs and stickers. Some of the signs are orange arrows (the same signs used by snowmobile riders in the Winter time) and some of the signs are directional stickers on fiberglass posts. The trail signs will be continually improved as the trail matures. Other recommended trails in the same area: Huntington Reservoir (J. Edward Roush Lake)
