Portland Nature Trail

The trail follows a mulch road until you reach the trail sign. You can either turn at the sign and enter the trail or keep going down the road until you come to the end of the trail. The trail follows a loop around the woods and it contains several small more technical sections to keep you happy. I suggest doing the trail backwards. It is a little more fun and contains more fun downhills and technical climbing. I would not come from far away to visit this trail, but if you are in the area it is a fun place to visit for a couple of hours.

Trail Directions
Half an hour north of Muncie and about and hour south of Fort Wayne. Once you get into Portland, the trailhead is near East Jay Junior High near the river. There is a sign posted with the name of the park on it. Go all the way down the gravel road until you come to a wood fence. The trail is behind it.

Summary:
GREAT SMALL TOWN TRAIL FOR TRAINING OR JUST FUN. THE TRAIL IS ABOUT 2.25 MILES LONG. THIS IS A NICE TRAIL FOR ITS SIZE. IF YOU LIVE IN THE AREA YOU SHOULD COME AND CHECK IT OUT. YOU MIGHT BE SUPPRIZED. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO RIDE IT WITH EMAIL ME. KEVO999@HOTMAIL.

Recommended Route:
FROM US27 TURN EAST ON HWY26(WHICH IS WATER ST. IN PORTLAND) GO TWO BLOCKS, THEN TURN SOUTH (RIGHT) ON WAYNE ST. GO ABOUT TWO BLOCKS AND THE TRAIL IS IN THE WOODS JUST PAST THE BRIDGE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ROAD. WATCH OUT OR YOU WILL MISS THE GRAVEL PATH LEADING TO THE TRAILHEAD.

Summary:
Fun trail, but a short one. Great place to ride if you don't have alot of time. There is a fun single track that runs between the river and the bark path, that requires some skill. When you get to the trail, it is more fun to ride if you go backwards, in my opinion. There are a few loops off of the main trail that are fun also. Looked to be well maintained. Plenty of parking if you drive to the location.

Recommended Route:
Easy to find, just follow the directions listed on this site.

Summary:
We just finished more trail....got a sweet downhill with a couple tight jumps. Trail stays relatively dry all winter too! Come try it out and review it, or email me with new ideas. We are expanding it all the time. Hope to add some northshore sections soon! Alot of super tight single track as well...vary rare for our area.

Recommended Route:
All kinds of new trails!
