Cross Country Rider Summary: If you have not ridden this trail in a couple of years you are realy missing out. There are over 5 mi of trail on the ball diamond side and over a mile on the lake side, starting in Link Park. The trail has jumps, bridges, a log rail, a pvc pipe bridge, some short hard climbs and a lot of fast riding. This trail is one of the more fun trails in the area and hopefully will soon be recognized by the City of LaPorte. That is the reason for the one draw back, the lack of good trail markings, but this should not prevent you from trying this trail. Just follow the flow and it will all make sense. As far as being maintained. The tail gets cleaned off at least twice a season, all down trees are cleaned up with a week and the trail even gets cleared of leaves every year around November for an anual Thanksgiving ride. Yeah the trail is not perfect but if more people know about the tail and it sees more traffic then I am sure this problem would be eleviated. Just go out and give it a try. Recommended Route: Find Lake Shor Dr in Soldiers Memorial Park and follow it until you notice Lyons Field. You can park here or go a little further to Link Park. Here there is running water and picnick shelter. Cross the roakd and go to the left.

Weekend Warrior Summary: This trail is ok for occasional use, the main problem with this trail is the markings suck. It is very hard to follow this trail, there are so many different legs coming and going every where you can go in circles. This trail is not very well taken care of either. But it is something, I guess. Go to Bluhm or Rum Village. Other recommended trails in the same area: BLuhm, Rum Village, or Imagination GLen.

Ridden Trail: Once a year

, from Kirtland, OH Summary: I grew up in the area and some of these trails have been around for years. I don't think that they are "officially" open to bikes but I rode them 20 years ago on my BMX bike and have always seen bicycles on these trails -- if nothing else, they should be open by some type of grandfather clause. I believe these trails are within the property of Soldiers Memorial Park which surrounds Stone Lake. If memory serves correct, the name "Chicken Noodle" refers to the large sandy, open area where a number of people used to 4X4 in their Jeeps and trucks (maybe they still do). However, the trails surrounding the area are mostly single track. Lots of switchbacks. There are no major drops or climbs but there are several short drops followed by climbs that will have you banging through the gears. Most of the trails are hardpack. A couple of the "lower" sections get pretty muddy if there has been much rain. The original post says the trails total 4 miles in length -- never measured them but that is probably in the ballpark (maybe a little optimistic). A fun trail if you are in the area but I wouldn't drive for hours to get to it. Recommended Route: From downtown LaPorte, take Lincolnway (Hwy 2) west to 2nd street. Make a right on second and follow west -- parallel to RR tracks. At Small Rd, make a right and cross over tracks, then follow for about a mile to Lake Shore Drive (on the right). Trailheads are not marked but can be found near across from the boat launch and near the softball fields.
