Ridden Trail: Ridden Once

Weekend Warrior Summary: The remains of a once mighty and remarkable trail. What's left is still very nice, especially for beginners and and a nice little run.
The river section of the trail is the most beautiful, placid, fast, cool (it's literally 15 degrees cooler along that section of the river) trail I've ever ridden. This portion of the trail alone makes the trail worth saving and definitely worth riding.
If your adventurous and want to take a little hike, check out the pioneer rot-iron fenced cemetery on the ridge of the hill near 96th street. It's visible from the road as the only bit of trees left surrounded by rot orange plastic fencing. All the trees on the hill used to be that tall. Recommended Route: The best trailhead is probably in Eller Rd Park (not sure of the correct name). Take Allisonville N of 96th st to Eller Rd. Turn at the baseball diamonds. Go to the back of the park adjacent to the subdivisions. Don't turn towards the sewage treatment facility.
The trail is well marked with a sign reading: "No Trespassing". This is just Fishers BS likely from the same creeps who once put up cable across some of the trail sections. It's all public land back there previously held in trust.
The "No Trespassing" signs around the entire trail is to guard against snoopy reporters (I talked to one from the Indy Star once) trying to survey land in the middle of a seriously corrupt land deal between Fishers and the developer who tore the place up. The fact that Fishers sewage treatment is back there also likely has something to do with the issue. The water that comes out of that facility is absoluetly putrid. You can smell it where their runoff pipe intersects the river (in the otherwise beautiful scenic run). It's a very fast section so you can speed by it and hardly notice the sewage smell right there ;-) Other recommended trails in the same area: Another often overlooked trail in the area is the BGI Indy/Riverbend trail. You can pick it up easily at BGI Indy (86th st) (go across the creek), or behind the AMLI Riverbend clubhouse.

, from Indianapolis Summary: Those of us who are familiar with the trail that once existed on the north side of 96th Street by the White River in Fishers take note!! There is a meeting at the Fishers Train Station meeting room (near the Municipal Building) on June 9th 2003 from 5 to 7 pm. The meeting is chaired by the DNR (Hydrology). They want to hear from the public regarding the wisdom allowing a developer to fill in around 15 cares of floodway by the White River for more freakin retail space!! The developer will also be in attendence. We need to come out and be heard!! Be advised that the land that Centre Properties can not develop will be deeded to the town of Fishers for Park use. Yes, this is the same guy who wacked the trails that once offered a great ride and hike by the White River. My previous conversations with the Fishers Park representative have indicated interest in reestablishing a trail system in Heratige Park. Many prominent local enviornmentalists will also be there. Please make this meeting. Bring friends especially those who live in Fishers or within 1 mile of this site!! This is important!! Contact me if you have questions. Paul Lin phone (317) 259-1711 or (317) 469-1900 email: paullin1@earthlinknet Recommended Route: Same as described. Other recommended trails in the same area: The south side of 96th Street.

Ridden Trail: Once a month

, from Indy Summary: This fun, fast trail can still be saved! Only about 1/3 of it is gone and, contrary to popular belief, it is still worth riding. The trail across the bridge is too crowded. When you get sick of that one, come on over and ride this old favorite.

, from Indy Summary: This trail has ben totally riped up to shit. There is still a bit of trail maybe a mile or two that you can still ride, but it is hardly worth it. If you go to the trail that I have mentioned above you should have a good time on this roller coster of a trial. It's pretty technical and from personal exprience I wouldn't advise bringing your girlfriend unless she is really hard core. Recommended Route: Scratch your plans to go to this once totally bad ass trail and go to the bicycle outfiters store and cross the 96th street bridge. On the west side right after you cross the white river pull into the first left down a dirt road. This is the best trail in Indy. Other recommended trails in the same area: Jersey wearing dudes that insist on wearing spandex need not aply.
