Cross Country Rider Summary: On the legal trails there's some laid-back, scenic loops with rolling hills, pine forests, praries and high-tension wires. The surface isn't ideal (woodchips, gravel, grass and uneven dirt) a road bike would not fare well, but you can still get some good speed on the hills. The Illinois Prarie Path runs north on the east side of the park with some fun paved hills.
The illegal trails are very cool. Dirt single-tracks around the north and east end of veteran acres, through the pine forests and plenty steming from the sterns forest trail including one that swoops into a other-worldly, natural pine forest. in the heart of sterns woods are some extreme hills with rocks and roots galore. Recommended Route: Park at the lorraine st. lot. warm-up with some loops around veteran acres then hit some of the tougher stuff in sterns woods. Other recommended trails in the same area: Illinois Prarie Path for some bland mileage

Weekend Warrior Summary: Stern's is the closet riding destination to me that actually has decent trails. It doesnt have much but you could spend a day out there easy. Short 5 sec downhills. XC that just gos and gos. Lots of fun! Recommended Route: Just flow with it. You'll end up on the main trail sometime. All the trails lead somewhere that will get you home.
