Illiniwek Park

This trail is maintained by the Quad Cities Friends of OffRoad Cycling (FORC). It is located in the Mississippi River bluff on the in Hampton, IL which is just a couple miles west of the I-80 bridge over the river.

FORC does a great job with all of the trails in the QC, and Illiniwek is no different. The trailhead is at the bottom of the bluff so you have to earn your DH fun at the beginning of the ride, but the climb is not terribly tough and the trails are super fun and flowy once you get to the top area! I would definitely recommend checking out this trail if you are in the area.

Here is the description from the FORC website (www.qcforc.org):

"Illiniwek is the newest of the FORC trail systems with the greatest elevation changes and greatest flowing corners in the area. The park is made up of two large loops, one on the north end of the park and other on the south end. Both loops can reached from the north parking lot off Route 84. Due to the newness of the park no signage is available, so park in the north parking lot with your car facing the woods and you will be looking out your windshield and on to the trial. Go right and the trail will take you to the south loop and left will take you to the north loop.
So come ride the beautiful mountains of upper Rock Island County Illinois. Leg burning up hills and brake burning down hills (WHAT GOES UP MUST COME DOWN)! Sandwiched in between beautiful flowing trails overlooking deep ravines."

Summary:
Super flowy singletrack with sweet +1 minute descents and sustained climbs of around 100'. Lots of berms and other flow aids. Technical features (log rides, log overs, and more) are slowly being added to the trails; the most recent being a 40' log ride. The terrain is steep with hardwood forest cover and no natural rock to speak of.

The trail system is two ~2 mile loops which are situated along and at the top of the bluff. A connector trail joins the two loops at the bottom. The south loop is open and flowy almost like a roller coaster at times. The north loop is a little tighter but still pretty flowy and offers more of a technical challenge: some roots, off camber turns, and steeper grades. There are around 5 miles of singletrack in total on the property.

Signage is excellent and includes trailhead kiosks with large trail maps and information bulletin boards (on the back) and two pedestal maps at the top of the bluff at the main trail intersections.

Watch out for other bike/hike traffic as the trails are currently bi-directional and some corners are fast and blind. A bell is very helpful as it can get pretty busy on the weekends and evenings. Also check out the trail status on FORC's website (www.qcforc.org) before you head out to ride.

Recommended Route:
It is basically one large loop. Ride one lap counter-clockwise and the next clockwise and you will have had the whole Illiniwek experience. Don't forget to hit the overlook trail for a great view of the Mississippi River and Lock and Dam 14. If you don't like to climb, stay up top and do a few laps of the upper north/south loop in both directions and then head down.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Scott County Park (Park View, IA), Sunderbruch Park (Davenport, IA), Sylvan Island (Moline, IL), Westbrook Park (DeWitt, IA)
