Chicago Lake Front Trail

Average Rating:    (1.88 of 5)

Paved. Lots to see. Great views of Chicago and the scantly clad natives! Fun jumps off the stair ledges that line the lake shore. The 1/4 pipe at the base of the Shedd Aquarium is a total gas (don't end up in the lake). Jumping the steps at the Buckingham Fountain is a killer. Stop at navy Pier for chow. You can ride your bike right onto the pier! Some fun concrete structures to play on with your bike. Highly recomended this ride the Friday before the Chicago Air and Water Show. You can catch the air show without the crowds.

Summary:
This trail is NOT an MTB trail. It is a paved lane, it is for road bikers, roller blades and runners. It is boring and I'll give it one pepper because of the view!

Summary:
Great scenic trail through the heart of Chicago. The views of the city are awsome, bu the best part of the ride is the people watching. Mountain bike content? Put on your biggest knobbies; the hum they make is great for scaring people out of the way. Also good resistance training. The roadies will be surprised when you pass them on the side of the trail in the grass. Hone your techinical skills for the trails by dodging the many roller bladers, dogs, joggers, and tourists.

Recommended Route:
When I lived on the chicago south side I would pick up the trail at S. 31st street and head north to the end of the LSD. South to Hyde Park is interesting too. Also check out the LATE ride in mid July, which hits part of the northern section of the trail in the middle of the night.

why is this on mtbreview.com?

Recommended Route:
south of downtown is less crowded and fun for road bikes, north side is good for watching the ladies.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
palos hills and deer grove for your mountain bike fix, this if you enjoy objectifying women.

Recommended Route:

Summary:
One of the few rides where its appropriate to bring the girlfriend along. And don't be fooled, This isn't mountain biking. This is "urban path riding." but don't go get out your yuppie road bike to hastily! This concrete trail does have some shiet to trick off of: The ledges make good 3 foot drop offs that are kinda fun, and if you like to pretend you are a trials rider, you can have some serious fun bouncing around the little "chess pavilion" and riding down stair cases. Most people here don't give a shit what you do, and won't even make eye contact. Don't plan on meeting any new riding buddies here and expect to be bitched at moderately for riding on the sidewalks downtown where its pretty ammusing. The cops are the only cool people here who don't bitch. Go figure.

Recommended Route:
It's a street. ride down it.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
check the other listings. . . . I'm no local.
