Summary:
I think this is the best paved trail in the suburbs. I prefer mountain biking but the trail goes by may house and when I don't have time to drive to palos or its wet or I go out with the family this trail is great. The total milage is about 27 miles.

The thing that makes this trail so great is its one of the only long paved trails that has a lot of hills. You have to cross several streets, but the trail rarely follows the street. Most often you are in a forest or medow. You will always see dear and there are several nice places to stop along the way.

The trail has three major loops.

The Largest loop is ten miles and hits arrowhead lake, turtle lake come close to bachlor grove (famous haunted cemitery).

Next if a five mile connector that brings you to a three mile loop that goes around Oak Forest National golf course. This is the most crowded part of the trail and not a place to ride fast.

Next the trail goes past a couple more lakes called midlothian resorvor for about 2 miles. Next you cross Cicero and go about .7 miles along Oak Forest Hospital cross 159 then your in midlotian medows that has the third and final loop that is about 3 miles. This is the only section that is really flat.

Recommended Route:
You can start the trail anywhere along the trail if you only want to do the ten mile loop park at 151st and oak park, turtle head lake or arrow head lake. There are several other picknicing/parking spots only the trail.

The most social place to park is yankee woods 163 central ave in Oak Forest.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Palos, Palos and Palos
