Cross Country Rider Summary: Nice ride for a Thursday morning, trails were perfect for riding and not congested like they are on the weekends. I finally found the three ravines and that particular part of the trail was moderately technical. I put on a brand new pair of Michelin XC dry2 tires and they were perfect for the quick uphill challenges, it seems like the more I ride these particular trails at Palos Forest preserve the easier they become, I am able to ride more confidently and much faster. When riding here I suggest you printout a copy of the trails in the preserve and keep it with you. Overall I look forward to many more adventures here and abroad so if you're ever in the area visit Palos you won't be disappointed IMO............. Goto to: http://www.cambr.org to get the map..... Recommended Route: I live in Chicago so I took 95th straight west to LaGrange RD and continue west til you get to the 4-way stop sign (Willow Springs Rd) and continue west until you see Bull Frog lake parking make a left and you're there.

Weekend Warrior Summary: The Palos trail network was formed by glacier activity about 10 thousand years ago. Very scenic, rolling hills, lakes, wildlife etc.
It's amazing how many riders want to talk down on this area. Look at the facts...it's about 10 miles from down town Chicago and about 4 miles from the outskirts of the city. It's really about 35 minutes from anywhere. Take it away...and what do you got? People..... we live in a huge Metropolitan area....we're lucky that Palos even exists. Enjoy what it has to offer, and realize there's not much else near by. Recommended Route: From I-55......Lagrange Road South to 95th Street. West on 95th Street.
95th street veers right towards Archer just past Maple Lake. Stay left and follow street to Bullfrog Lake grove. (on right).

Cross Country Rider Summary: As another individual already mentioned below... Most people, and some regulars never EVEN make it to the "3 ravines". If you do not know what a ravine is, the "3 ravines" will define them for you when you ride down the 25'-30' drops and then the challenging climbs. Unless you are a hardcore downhiller, most people cannot honestly say that they do not feel a bit intiminated when approaching one of these root-packed drops. FS not required for the drops, but a nice 110+ mm of travel on the fork is a nice insurance policy for not cracking your skull. And if you like hard tails like myself, you will appretiate the acceleration and light weight when climbing.
If your a joker and you do not know how to find the 3 ravines, go to http://www.cambr.org . Click on "Palos" under local trail maps. This is better than asking a fellow rider with a fancy suspension become some of them don't even know where the 3 ravines are. Recommended Route: http://www.cambr.org
PRINT A MAP! Other recommended trails in the same area: Its all good. If you ride almost every day like myself, its good to kick it back on a less-challenging trail now and then and give your leg muscles a break.
