LAKE GLENDALE TRAILS

EXCELLENT SINGLE TRACK THROUGH HARDWOODS WITH NUMEROUS HILLS, JUMPS, AND SREAM CROSSINGS. SIMILAR TO LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES CANAL LOOP TRAIL BUT MORE TECHNICAL, AND MORE HILLS. LARGE BLUFF WITH TRAIL ABOVE AND BELOW. THERE ARE A COUPLE OF LOOPS THAT CAN BE RIDDEN HERE. THERE IS ALSO A GRAVEL TRAIL AROUND THE LAKE FOR BEGGINERS. THERE ARE A FEW HORSE RIDERS SO BE CURTIOUS. DO NOT RIDE ON PRIVATE LAND.

The trail was great, I was very impressed especially after riding the Cedar Lake Trail. I am looking for a partner to ride with &/Or a Map of the area.

Just wanted to give props to Kyle. Without all his hard work, us Carbondale folks wouldn't have such a nice getaway! There's something for everybody here!

Summary:
Rode this trail last weekend with my brother. I didn't get to enjoy it as much as I should have because of soreness from a previous crash were I nearly broke my neck. You are definetly going to need a map for this trail so go to the camping area and track the guy down with the maps. He was really informative and friendly. Anyway, the trail was really good for So. Illinois, not nearly as rocky and lots of nice fast downhills and some jumps (even some made of wood!). All singletrack with not too much horse damage. My only problem with the place is that there are so many intersections that every time we came to one we would have to stop and get out the map. I am sure it would be a great ride if you knew the trails however. Lots of good climbs with very little long flat portions. Not like a lot of southern Illinois where there are either 4wheeler trails or rocks and logs every five feet. I like downhills and jumps, and this trail gives a good workout, (one of the downhills even had berms built up in it). I didn't ride every trail there but it would be nice to have a recommended route or marked with numbers or letters maybe to help out new people. Looking at the map, it seems like you could do a lot of miles without too much overlap. I'll definetly be riding this again cause its only 20 miles from my house! Would like to see more people on the trail, the more the merrier I say.

Summary:
Very nicely laid out singletrack. Many short climbs, few rocky technical sections, some "Moab" rock, nice scenery and not much horse damage. More challenging than the Canal Loop in LBL but not nearly as tough as typical Shawnee National Forest trails. Kyle Austin is the chief maintainer of the trails and he led us on a tour of all the nearly 10 miles December 10.

Recommended Route:
Lots of options.. you will need a map and good sence of direction. Plenty of interecting traila and many look alike.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Eagle Mountain near Herrod
