Big Hole Crest
1 reviews
4 of 5
A high alpine ride that follows the crest of the Big Hole mountains. A long, strenuous ride with a few hiking sections, but rewards with amazing views of the Teton range across the valley and long sections of fun singletrack. Gives access to even longer epic rides on the west side of the Big Hole mountains.
Start at the south fork of Horseshoe Canyon trailhead. Go west from the light in Driggs. Cross the Teton river, and keep going west where the main road bends south. The road will bend north and then west again, finally entering Horseshoe Canyon. Continue about 3 miles further to the large parking lot at the trailhead.
You'll need to leave a shuttle car at the spooky trailhead. Head south from Driggs on Highway 33 to Victor. Turn right at the flashing light in Victor onto Highway 32, and follow this over Pine Creek Pass. The trailhead is the first on the right after the summit.
Follow the South Fork of Horse Canyon trail to a junction at a small saddle at 5 miles. Turn right and head towards Elk Flat. Pass the Mahogany creek trail on your left, and climb steeply to the Crest. Pass the Relay Ridge trail, onto Elk Flat. You now follow the Big Hole Crest for hours. At the Red Mountain trail junction head left, descending steeply at first, and then moderately for miles to the Corral Creek junction. Turn right and descend Corral Creek to the Spooky trail. A short, easy climb and then a fantastic singletrack finish to your car. Lots of other options for the adventurous.
