Two Creeks and a River (Alden, Deer,& C d'A)

 4.5 of 5

Find trail on same side as information board side of road just South of information board. Trails climbs, drops, contours, sidehills, and crosses several slippery rock creeks for 6.1 miles to road 412 at Jordan Camp. Cross road and continue on river trail. At mile 7.4 the junction with Alden Creek takes off to right which climbs out of the river bottom.

This is a wonderful moderately climbing trail. Ride it up until it hits an abandoned logging road, turn left and continue climbing until you hit an all weather logging road 332. Turn left and ride this road to first left on open logging road 3096. Climb to Whitetail Peak site of a former fire lookout tower. Descend on beat up road till trail 448, Deer Creek, junction on the left. Turn left traversing for a while. It drops sometimes steeply down to Coeur d’Alene River trail junction. Turn left and ride down river passing Alden Creek junction and retrace route back to where you parked. The upper reaches of the C d’A River trail from Jordan Camp and Deer Creek are sketchy on steep sidehill and require a large amount of concentration and confidence to ride. Alden creek trail is little used with portions being almost less than a single track.

I will post the mileage at junctions when I ride it again. Total ride: 34.3 miles, 4830 feet elevation gain, 5 ½ hours

Summary:
The description of this ride is very accurate. We did this ride as a spur of the moment change in the middle of a CD'A river ride and paid for it when we hit massive dead falls blocking the Deer Creek Trail (8/8/05). Calling ahead for the trail condition is certainly wise on a 35 mile ride.

Summary:
Long adventurous ride. Take lots of water and food. Logging road 332 isn't much fun but is needed to cross over to deer Creek divide. Downed trees can be a problem, my ride enjoyed cleared trails. Call Ranger Station at (208) 765-7381 to learn of trail conditions.
A shorter ride is to just ride Alden Creek until it hits old logging road and turn around and enjoy the downhill.
