St Louis Trail

Starts of as a wide area with mild roots and turns into an area with big roots, this then turns into nice single track with some steep stuff at the end.

Summary:
This is a very handy trail and one of the best ones in Hawaii, especially if you are staying in Waikiki. I did not have a car during my stay, so to get to the trail I had to peddle to the trail from Waikiki for about 40-45 minutes, and out of that, 30 minutes up a fairly steep hill (St. Louis Drive). You can also take transit, bus #14, but if you need a good cardio workout, stick to grinding your way up.
The entrance to the park is off Ruth Pl. which is at the end of St. Louis road. When you are at the parking lot, look to your left. You will see a shelter by which all the DH trails start. As the main trail starts, slightly to your left, there is another trail which starts with a steep drop and than a steep descend. The main trail starts with a fairly rooty area which goes into a jump area and from there on it continues downhill. I did enjoy bumping over tree roots since where I live there is nothing similar. The main trail has few sharp switch over’s, tall grassy area, rocky descends and there is a beautiful view of Waikiki from many points.
If you enjoyed your first ride take the bus back or grind your way back up. If you are taking a bus to get up here first time the fare is valid for 2 hours.

Recommended Route:
Up St. Louis road or bus #14

Check your brakes, grease your bike, and get ready to rock the hill. first section is fast and rockey. then be prepaired for a small jump to the right. continue on and you'll find 3 jumps for all levels of riders. After those, comes the switches, drops, and just sick speed. if you are looking for riders visit http://groups.msn.com/SinePariBiking and leave a message.

Summary:
Dis was one of my favorites when I lived in Makiki. It was second to Tantalus till that got banned. There was a time that we used this area a pratice race area, as you could do a bunch of laps and have fun, without feeling alone, like in a real mtb race.

Recommended Route:
Ride from the road at the entrance, down the left and play around in the network of trails. If you find the ropeswing (if it's still there) play on that for awhile. Then ride to the top where the powerline tower is. Turn around and bomb downhill. When back by the parking benches near the parking lot, veer right and continue down. Go fast but watch for people coming uphill. Yes there are some of us who would ride uphill.

Oahu.
