Weekend Warrior Summary: One of Kauai's most challenging trails. Especially if you love to climb because there's plenty of that. The trick to Kalepa is staying on the right trail and staying off the wrong ones... You'll know which is which because you'll be carrying your bike on the wrong ones. Avoid late morning and high noon rides because this trail is a cooker. Watch out for motorcycles, especially on weekends. Recommended Route: Take the paved road to the ridge. Go right at the hairpin turn when you reach the saddle for a longer XC ride with lots of route variation. Ride the pavement all the way to the top for 3 minute black diamond descent.

Cross Country Rider
, from Half Moon Bay, CA Summary: I last rode this trail in Jan 2002, no more cable on entrance, has cyclone fence gates but does have a ride around area. After passing water tank, entrance is aprox .5 mile up the concrete road on steep left hand turn, trail head is on the right. Take the left trail as this is an old road that has narrowed down to a beautiful single track and bypasses the first hikeabike area and takes you onto the ridge. When you come to the next split stay to the left, this is another single track and bypasses another bad area, all middle ring, some roots and rocks but a nice fun ride. You can ride out to aprox 2 miles and then it is hikeabike and ride but the views are worth it. The first time I rode this in '02 I stayed on the ridge and had more hikeabike than this time. Heavy usage by motorcycles on weekends and they have done a lot of damage to the steep areas. Lots of deep rutting the last mile, I will try and post some pictures of this trail. Recommended Route: I stay in Kapaa and always ride to the trail heads, this gives me a few more miles and is a good warm up for the ride. Other recommended trails in the same area: Lots of good riding, check out my other reviews of Kaua'i. I recommend picking up the "Mountain Biking the Hawaiian Islands" by John Alford. This is available at all the Bike Shops, one good bike shop is in Kapaa on the Kuhio Highway, Kaua'i Cycle.

Cross Country Rider Summary: AWESOME trail.
Ocean on one side, the wettest spot on earth on the other side. This trail is some of the most scenic single tracks in the world. Kauaians are lucky.
Towards the end of the trail it becomes undoable hike-a-bike, but well worth the hike if you want to get a great look at the Wailua River. Other recommended trails in the same area: Kealia Beach Trail!!!
See the guys at Kauai Cycle in Kapaa for more info. You can ride right from there door.
Also, Waimea Canyon is a must do!

Reviewed by: Summary: The view is spectacular. Very Erroded Lots Of dirt bikers. As soon as you get on the trail look to drop out to the right this will allow you to loop around the water tower. Then you can start back on the same trail. Do the same on the left. To add distance to the trail.
