Summary:
Started at the Wailua Homesteads Park and headed to the trailhead at the end of Olohena Road through some back roads near the park. I was pleased to see how this old horse trail was transformed into a smooth well maintained double track up to the Kulihau picnic area. The climbs are not steep but have a long constant grade to the picnic area and one must create their own spots to catch their breath. The transition and descent on the Kulihau trail is super fast but be carefull of hikers and other riders coming up. Nice lush views of the "Garden Island" with views of the powerline trail across the valley. Returned to the Wailua Homesteads Park via Kuamo'o road and a left on Kamalu road.

Recommended Route:
Start at the Olohena road trailhead and finish at the Kulihau trailhead. Double back if you feel up to it.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Sleeping Giant, Kalepa, Anahola

Summary:
Last posted a review on this trail in Jan of '02, same trail and a nice ride to connect to the other trails that I reviewed in the past, lots of maintenance has been done and the mud bogs have been filled in, a few wet spots but all is rideable. The parks service has also improved the Kuilau trail, not slippery like in the past, It was a light rain when I rode these trails and had no problem at all.

Summary:
On the way up this is a gradual climb on a fireroad with nice views of the mountains when the weather is clear. On the way down it can be a fun, fast descent. Just be on the lookout for horses and hikers.

Summary:
This trail intersects Kuilau Trail at the top and is a best way to access Kaulau trail, The Moalepe trail is a fire road and not too steep, middle ring for the trail, three or four mud bogs on the upper half of the trail, some areas you will have to hike a bike, the mud bogs are created by the horse traffic on the trail but its worth it to add on the Kuilau Trail, some great views. With the addition of the Kuilau Trail this is a fun ride.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Kuilau Trail, Kuamo'o-Nounou Trail
