Out and back dirt road, no significant branches. Dry and well maintained for the first 3 miles. After the reservoir expect very sticky slippery mud and deep ruts. Best during a dry spell. After 6 miles up you are on the top of Mt. Kahili, then you can go down. Beautiful views possible.

Summary:
A trippy place to ride if you can handle a lot of MUD. This trail is a great argument for renting a bike instead of bringing one. You're going to need a serious hose-off if you make it to the top. Excellent views though... About as remote a place as you can get to without a helicopter... Lots of orchids, ferns and stuff like that. Trippy as I said.

Recommended Route:
I prefer the "back way"... even though it's SUPER MUDDY 20 minute climb and the recommended route is much drier. To get there, go to the top of Puuwai Road in Kalaheo, look for a little "Government Property" dirt road and start riding (there's no gate, but don't drive down it). You'll want to go right when you reach the main road. Watch out for pig hunters and horse back riders (who are cool if you get off your bike and give them right of way). My ratings apply to this route. I'm not into the other way.
