Summary:
Has it all. Get a great work out with incredible scenery. Watch out for the motorcycle peeps if you enter their territory--although they do not mind you there--remember it's their premiere riding spot so give em the right of way. All are friendly and many will stop and chat a spell.

Recommended Route:
Park at Foodland. Up the paved, twisty steep road 3 miles to the boyscout camp. Over the gate, 1.5 mi or so to trail jutting to left. Or after that gate, ride 2 miles to the next gate--don't cross it or be on Army Land. Look ot left and see another gate. That's a fun fireroad used by moto guys. Take it 5 miles until it "T"'s, turn left--find the moto guys and gals campground and track, scream down the road until you hook back up with KAM highway, turn left and find your way 3 miles or so back to the foodland parking lot. About a 14 miles loop pf varying surfaces.

Summary:
I hit Kaena Point and this trail in a two day session on the North Shore and worked in some surfing as well, if you are visting oahu dont miss either. Also I rented a badass Psyclewerks softy from Scott at Island Bike Rentals in Haleiwa and some snorkel gear for 45/day.

Recommended Route:
Spend all day and get lost. When you wanna leave find the jeep trail and ride up and out , save some energy for jeep trial it is no easy ride, also have someone drive you (or ride) up the road to the Pupu boyscout camp where the trailhead is so when you finish the trail you get a sick view of the pac ocean and a fast downhill on blacktop at the end

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Kaena Point a pretty easy ride but bring snorkel gear and some water socks so you can jump off the ten foot Lava Cliffs, SICK!

Summary:
Its a fun trail if you can do the loop without pass the trail head. The down hill is fun with roots and some hairpin turns.

Recommended Route:
Start out at the first gate. Ride past the trail head. When you see a gate on your left take that trail. When you reach the top its all down hill. Keep a eye out for the trail head on your left it will take you back to the boy scout camp.

Summary:
Not much of a review. More like an endorsement of the experience, especially if you want great photos to impress your buddies back home. So here's an east coaster vacationing in Hawaii and going ISO singletrack. On the recommendation of the cool dudes at Barnfield's, my novice host & I took off for the trail. We started on the fire road and then hit the trail head. There were actually two or three trails at the trailhead. We took the one that went downhill... It had rained just a little earlier in the day, and it was just enough to make the leaves, roots and funky red dirt you've got here slick enough for my host & I to go to defcon 4 in wondering if we'd make it out alive (well, to be honest, I was more worried about him than me.) Our fears were realized when my buddy hit some sketchy trail and was thrown down a steep, slippery embankment. Fortunately it was a short fall. But is was so wet and slick, it took him about half an hour to find a way up the 20' hill he had just slid down. At that point, we decided to not risk lives any further and double back. There are some _mean_ drop-offs elsewhere on the trail...enough to make this not suited for beginners. As for me, I'm more accustomed to east coast x-country riding found in Maryland & Virginia. Nothing like these gorgeous Hawaiian mountain ranges where I'm from. (Sorry, West Virginia...) As a survivor of the 2000 24 Hours of Snowshoe, I'm no longer afraid of slick, greasy, root-strewn trails (Laird, you sick b@$t@rd!), however drop offs like ones on this trail are as gorgeous as they are dangerous. Ride with care.
