Laie Falls

The trail offers a nice climb, which is doable without getting off your bike. However, the friends I rode with generally couldn't do it without stopping for air a few times. It is incredibly beautiful with views of the pacific ocean every 1/2 mile or so. The terrain is diverse. From forested areas to almost southern utah-like dry red dirt-rocks. The trail gets real narrow, sorrounded by guava trees when you reach the ridge. Leave your bike and hike the remaining two miles or so to the waterfall. If it is raining or really slick don't go down the really steep part before the falls. It can get pretty treacherous.

Trail Directions
I don't remember for sure. But I know it is close to the Mormon temple in Laie. When you are right in fromt of the temple turn right. Follow that road a few blocks and then you'll turn left and head toward the mountains. The road becomes a dirt road and you will go through some farmland. Follow dirt road a couple of miles. You will see the trailhead.

Summary:
Great trail. Difficult uphill climb. More advanced riders can ride all the way up. Otherwise, need to take breaks, and walk for parts. After reaching the top, the ride back down is great. Single track, rocks, loose dirt and pine needles. Great views of the ocean.

Summary:
Just a few more details to Blaine's review: Turn left on Poohaili St. and proceed inland. It's a good idea to register first for a hiking permit and map at the Hawaii Reserves office in Laie Shoping Center.
